Happy Sunday, Creative Army!

Have you had a creative weekend so far? I have some content here for you that is sure to get the creative juices flowing, so grab your coffee, and let's dive in.

First up, in this Film Courage interview, Carole Kirschner shares 5 traits that you need to succeed in the entertainment business. Carole spent fifteen years as a television development executive, former Vice President of Television for Steven Spielberg's first Amblin Entertainment, and a Comedy Development exec at CBS, she’s had the privilege of working with some of the most respected writers in the industry. She then became a consultant and created and runs the CBS/Paramount Writers Mentoring Program, which has helped launch the careers of more than eighty television writers of color, including 14 showrunners. Carole talks about the importance of having a fantastic work ethic, a personality that people want to be around, and continuing to expand and build your community, before luck, timing, or even talent can make a difference in your career. You need to be additive, collaborative, and genuine when making connections with others if you wish to succeed.

I always say that if you’re going to be successful in this business, then you’re going to be in rooms. That means that you have to get comfortable connecting with people to pitch yourself and your projects. Those social skills involved with the business side of the industry are like any other, practice makes perfect. If you take the time to practice your pitch in front of others, you’ll grow more confident and comfortable. Practice pitching in front of a mirror, in front of your family or friends, or even with the Stage 32 Community! In the Writer’s Room, we provide a weekly Pitch Practice night over Zoom every Thursday to give our members an opportunity to practice these skills with the support of their peers. If you’d like to join in, you can do so HERE! Or learn more in this video!

I’d love to know, what are the traits that have helped you succeed? How do you push yourself outside of your comfort zone to practice and hone your networking or pitching skills? Let me know in the comments below!
