Happy Sunday, Creative Army!
Have you had a creative weekend so far? I have some content here for you that is sure to get the creative juices flowing, so grab your coffee, and let's dive in.
First up, we're looking at conversations on screen. These are some of the most challenging scenes to write, shoot, and edit in a way that's interesting. In this video from Cutting Concepts, they take a look at one of the best conversations in cinema with the opening scene of THE SOCIAL NETWORK, and how editing the back and forth between these two characters can heighten what's happening and engage the audience. While it's a lesson in editing, there are lessons here that you can easily apply to your directing, shooting, and writing as well.
Next up, we're looking at plot twists. What makes a great plot twist? How do you set it up properly? How do you know if it'll play well for the audience? In this video from StudioBinder, you'll look at great examples from films like GET OUT, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, ARRIVAL, MEMENTO, and more. You'll examine why some work and why some don't, as well as how misdirection, clues, and great structure can ensure you land a great plot twist in your project.
