I’ve had a love affair with writing for as long as I can remember, but my journey wasn’t always on a straight road. Being a screenwriter who after a 27-year hiatus from writing returned to his craft with a renewed passion and dedication, I had written a series of whimsical short stories that were well-received by readers. However, life and its responsibilities took center stage, and I put my writing on hold to focus on other things.

During my hiatus, I lived life with no regrets. I gained a wealth of life experiences that would later inform my writing, and when I returned to writing, I did so with a fresh perspective and a newfound appreciation for the craft.

My return to writing was not without its challenges. I had to learn new techniques and strategies to adapt to the changing landscape of writing for the film industry. I also had to confront the fear and self-doubt that comes with pursuing a creative career after a long hiatus.

Despite these challenges, I persevered and began writing screenplays that reflected my unique voice and perspective. I was determined to tell stories that were authentic to my own experiences and worldview, just as I believe that there is value in writers sharing their own narratives and perspectives with the world.

I also discovered and aligned myself with Stage 32, a platform like no other. Run by creatives and industry pros who believe in the writer, actor, and filmmaker and gives them an honest chance to succeed by letting them connect with execs and managers to have those opportunities to showcase their projects and get eyes on them.

My commitment paid off, and I found success by pitching my comedy/drama feature script GARDEN OF EDEN to an exec on Stage 32, who passed the script to a college producer at Uallywood Productions. It was optioned, then sold, and is now in production as of March 2023. The same studio also optioned and bought my second feature script, a thriller/drama titled TWO, which will begin production in June. I was thrilled to be working with an amazing film crew and cast who shared my passion for storytelling, and I was humbled by the opportunity to bring my vision to life. The on-set experience was fascinating… the details and collaboration by everyone truly made my soul happy and appreciative.

Stage 32 also gave me the ability to connect with a community of like-minded writers who support and work with one another. Through the site’s education webinars and classes, along with networking and building a circle of trust and respect, I’m able to write in a positive atmosphere and flourish.

Although I appreciate my success, I remain committed to giving back to the writing community. I regularly offer script consultations in a supportive space to help other writers with their scripts because I believe that the success of one writer benefits the entire community. I also co-host the Thursday night Pitch Practice in the Stage 32 Writers' Room where writers can pitch their projects in a constructive environment and get helpful notes to raise their pitch game.

The power of perseverance, self-belief, and the importance of writers sharing their own unique voices has proven to me that no matter the circumstances, it is never too late to start writing again.

I hope that my story is a reminder that writing is a way of life. It requires dedication, hard work, and a willingness to put oneself out there and share one's unique voice with the world. And while success may not come overnight, it is always within reach for those who believe in themselves and their craft. So, if you have a story to tell, don't be afraid to start writing – who knows where it might take you.
