the confession
A 50-year-old Black man walks into the New York Police Department and demands to be arrested for murder. It seems like an easy case for detectives Mark Alessi and Silvio Brugger, but the self-confessed killer, John Reginald Powell, is confused, frequently changing his demeanor from rage to surrender, from threats to tears, with apparent ease. He clings to memories of his childhood, when he was a happy boy in Louisiana, and relives pivotal moments from his life. Numerous flashbacks to the 1970s reveal the depth of his character. Meanwhile, bodies are discovered across Manhattan: a priest, three affluent young men from New York’s elite, and two young girls. The deep understanding of what transpired and the motive for the murders will make for a shocking final.
