I’m a casual observer and also not American so I don’t really know, but this current hoohaa with Gina Carano announcing she will be producing a film independently seems to have caused a stir. Ignoring the politicking of it all, I’m interested to know if people think this could be the start of the decentralisation of the Hollywood model? Could we be seeing the monopolisation beginning to fracture?
Here in the US, Hollywood has been 'decentralizing' during the past several years and many hold their entrenched views as to why - personally, I'm in the economics camp. I think this trend is a boon for the burgeoning independent filmmaking industry and I have high hopes and expectations for the future as the chaff is winnowed out.
