I am trying to remember another time this has happened, and so far, I cannot think of a situation like this. I am curious if any of you all have had this happen.
I had been looking forward to the new Rian Johnson murder mystery. I'm typically NOT a fan of this type of movie, but the first one was so well done, I now anxiously await each new entry. The second one I liked OK, I was not a huge fan of the casting and I think that significantly detracted from what the film could have been but it was still well done, exceptionally well written and enjoyable.
Last night I finally set aside some time to watch the new one, Wake Up Dead, Man. I have to say - after the first 40 minutes I was sort of gutted. The story, while interesting, seemed bigged down, the humorous lines I look forward to so much (especially from a great actor likeJosh Brolin!) were in short supply and the tone was nothing I was expecting. I was just about to that point of switching it off but I didn't.
What great fortune - the last 90 minutes of the movie took such a tremendous pivot and the commentary that drips from the script is they type of story I DREAM of constructing one day. It's my fave Rian Johnson movie at this point, even surpassing Metal Lords. I can't wait to re-watch tonite!!
So, anyone else just about turn off a movie part way in and end up liking it tremendously?
P.S. - Glen Close should be considered for awards nominations.
I watched it the weekend, Darrell Pennington. It's phenomenal! I'm still thinking about the movie. I think the pacing earlier on could've been better, but the film really picked up. If I write a Murder Mystery script, I'll definitely study the Knives Out movies.

Maurice Vaughan agreed. I am working on one right now - Be A Legend - and Rian Johnson is a blessing and a curse all at once! Such great writer.
Be A Legend sounds interesting from the title, Darrell Pennington! Looking forward to hearing what it's about!

When Derek is hired by Ryan Seacrest to be the new General Manager for Olympus, a hidden resort for long thought dead celebrities to live forever, he is thrust into a world of intrigue, conspiracy, and murder as Walt Disney is found stabbed to death. The race is on to find the killer and prevent the world from discovering Olympus and the sinister plans of the mysterious Mr. J.
SYNOPSIS:
On a secluded Pacific island, one of the world's biggest secrets lies hidden...Derek works as a bellhop at the Chateau, one of LA's most exclusive hotels. He's a stubborn, resentful and solitary guy who harbors a deep crush for Lady Di. As he struggles to cope with the chronic illness of his mother, his interactions with celebrities day in and day out reaches a crescendo with him breaking Christian Bale's nose and losing his job.
With his Mom depending on him and no other options in sight, a chance meeting with Ryan Seacrest leads to a job offer that is as strange as it is lucrative and off Derek goes to Olympus, an island resort where Legends long thought to be dead are living a life of excess, debauchery and dread. If their Q scores suffer, the serum Mr. J provides to keep them alive may be withheld.
As Derek arrives to the secretive paradise his world is turned upside down and sideways. Elvis? JFK? Marilyn? The 3 Gems Club (Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Jim Belushi)? Is this all a dream? As he attempts to gather himself and make sense of his new surroundings an introduction to Marilyn Monroe leads to an encounter his Dad must have dreamed of! His first night concludes with a drunken and less than inspired Happy Birthday Mr. President performance by Marilyn to celebrate JFK's 108th birthday. He arrives for a scheduled 2 AM meeting with Walt Disney to discover the Mikey Mouse creator stabbed to death. A sudden series of shrieks startles the island residents and they congregate at Walt's bungalow to find a blood covered Derek holding the murder weapon.
Derek must gather himself and find the murderer with the help of his new found friend with benefits - along the way he discovers a history and potential future that will alter the planet unless he finds a way to stop it.

Be A Legend sounds thrilling, Darrell Pennington! What hooked me the most is "a hidden resort for long thought dead celebrities to live forever" and "The race is on to find the killer and prevent the world from discovering Olympus and the sinister plans of the mysterious Mr. J." I can't wait to watch this!
