Composing : One Song by Wyman Brent

Wyman Brent

One Song

Today I only wrote one song—and I’m more than fine with that.

That song is Broken Glass Symphony. It came to me in less than five minutes, with no revisions, and it feels like one of the most important pieces I’ve ever written.

Since I began songwriting in April, I’ve already written about racism, prejudice, and injustice. Broken Glass Symphony adds to that in a special way. It is written in memory of Kristallnacht—the Night of Broken Glass—and it carries both heartbreak and remembrance.

Sometimes creativity is about quantity. But today, it was about depth. And for me, this one song was enough.

Maurice Vaughan

Yeah, it's like that sometimes, Wyman Brent ("Sometimes creativity is about quantity"). Sometimes you just come up with one thing though, like you did. I'd rather write one incredible scene, screenplay, etc. than five average ones. And I love it when it's quality and quantity!

Kerry Kennard

Agree - quality over quantity.
