If there's a master plan here I'm not sure what it is but losing the NBA when it was a definitional brand is more terrible news for Warner Bros.-Discovery. Maybe they just couldn't hang in the high-limit room at this casino with Disney (ESPN & ABC), Comcast (NBA & Peacock) & Amazon. Then again, who could? https://deadline.com/2024/07/warner-bros-discovery-shares-hit-by-nba-los...

WOW. What a blow. They're really not having a good summer over at Warner Discovery.

That's huge, Sam Sokolow! I don't have Max anymore, but the NBA was one of the reasons I had it.

Wow! I had heard some of their scripted shows were cancelled because they were steering more and more toward sports, so this is definitely not good news. End of article says they might litigate? Wouldn't that take a ton of money?

Xochi Blymyer it would but not nearly the money it would take to make a deal. I think its a lost cause - the NBA has leverage so maybe WBD wants to end with a "kill fee" or some participation. But going to court to prove you can't run with the big dogs is tough optics for then right now.

Xochi Blymyer - you were spot on and I was short-sighted - they are going after TNT: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/tnt-sports-sues...

Sam Sokolow you beat me to this. I was just going to post that Disney, Amazon, and NBCU understood the assignment when they inked a deal with the WNBA: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/wnba-tv-deal-disney-amazon-nbcuniversal-1235957266/

Sam Sokolow this is like playing a game. Who’s winning? ! Wonder will WBD get it back or a consolation prize?

That is big news!! A reflection of things to come not just for Warner Bros-Discovery — for elsewhere in the industry as well. Seems like this era of the entertainment industry’s version of the wild west more and more.
