Be Careful Out There

If you’re a creator posting about your work or asking for support, be on the lookout for a familiar visitor in the comments:

“I think I can contribute in the growth of this campaign in one way or the other, kindly reach out to me on WhatsApp.”

Ah yes… the mysterious philanthropist who can’t spell and only communicates via WhatsApp.

These copy-paste scammers are everywhere lately, posting the same vague message on heartfelt campaigns. If you see it, don’t engage. Just report, block, and move on like you’re sidestepping a badly written villain in your screenplay.

Let’s keep LinkedIn and Stage 32 supportive, safe, and scam-free for all of us who are genuinely building something real.

(And if you’re truly here to help… maybe lead with something better than “connect with Soft Expert.” Just saying.)

Stay creative. Stay sharp. And remember:

If it smells fishy and they don’t mention your actual project, it’s probably not sushi.

Good points, Wyman Brent. Google people. Ask for references. Do your due diligence. Be smart. Use common sense. Same as it ever was.

Richard "RB" Botto, is it possible I am not the only Talking Heads fan? I shared on Linkedin my Ko-fi page. Almost immediately, I had three comments on the post from obvious scam artists that I already reported to Linkedin.

Richard "RB" Botto

Huge Heads fan right here, my friend.

LinkedIn is a breeding ground, unfortunately. Gotta be on your toes over there.

Richard "RB" Botto, I was lucky enough to help set up a David Byrne concert in San Diego. He was incredibly nice. I got to hang out with him for hours. He signed several records for me. I also went to a Tom Tom Club concert and got autographs on records after. That was seriously cool.

Richard "RB" Botto

Those are incredible experiences, Wyman Brent. Love hearing that Byrne was as cool as he appears.

Richard "RB" Botto, I just made a post regarding the venue where I helped set up the David Byrne concert. It was called 4th and B. It was the same venue where I had one of the most beautiful moments of my life which quickly brought me to tears of sorrow. Los Lobos was appearing at 4th and B. This was a time when I was not helping set up concerts. I knew they were going to be there so i took several albums to get signed. They were hanging out in the parking lot. They were very cool. I got to talk with them for a long time and they signed all of my albums. Then as they were getting ready to head in for the show, I started to walk away. I did not have money for a ticket. Sandra Rosas, wife of Cesar Rosas, asked me where I was going. I explained I did not have money for a ticket. She took me by the hand and said that I was with them. She led me in backstage hand in hand the whole time. She gave me a hug inside and told me to enjoy the show. A few days later and she was murdered. That tore me up inside and still does when I think about it now.

That is why she is a main character in my planned animated series What the Mack? That is why it is so important to me that the show gets made. Just how?

Richard "RB" Botto

Wow, that's quite a story, Wyman Brent. Can certainly see why it's so important. You have the script for this? If so, write Geoff for sure.

Wyman Brent

Richard "RB" Botto, thank you so much. I will write to Geoff. If this series does become reality, I plan to donate a portion of my profits to whichever charity would have been Sandra`s favorite. I will have to ask Cesar.
