Writing a Script to a Location vs Finding Locations For The Script

Hi, I'm interested to hear from you scriptwriters as to which way you prefer to work. Obviously its less stressful if you have the location already sorted out before you start casting etc (commercials/availability), but it would be interesting to see how many of you work in this way (in the UK). I live on the Wirral great locations here and inspiration close to Liverpool Fast and The Furious 6 filmed there Paul Bettany's new film Blood filmed in my home town West Kirby, sometimes on my travels i see places and use them or adapt and of course imagine many , my wife is a photographer so that helps

I try to keep my locations as generic as possible unless it's specifically an integral part of the story. But even then, Vancouver can look like San Fran, parts of Toronto can pass for NYC, all of Quebec looks very Euro and a forest is a forest is a forest ... a dessert is a dessert ... open water ...

Sounds like a reasonable strategy, Marisa. We look forward to hearing about work that you've published. Best wishes
