I love animated movies! I think they for sure have an edge since the versions can be edited into other languages. Food for thought!!

I suspect this movie is an outlier, driven by its primary audience being kids under age 13 who are now out of school. IMO, the public is starved for anything halfway-decent. Increasingly, I think more movies need to be able to generate profit even from a 'small' $50 million theatrical haul.

I think animated movies have an edge globally because of the ability to generate international versions easier in post, Sam Sokolow. And if extra footage needed to be shot for a live-action movie, the filmmaker(s) would have to get the actors to set and maybe build/rebuild sets.
