Good (Easter) Morning, Everybody! As a writer I know that pre-production isn't necessarily my job but I am wondering if there could be any benefit to me reaching out to people? The situation specifics are that I've submitted my first screenplay to a contest (yes, I know the odds) and I am interested in a few (very few), very specific people being involved if it reaches production. I've already reached out to my choice of musical talent and have it on good authority that they are interested in the direction and would very likely become involved. Of course they understand that this is on the basis that I actually sell the script. This has encouraged my desire to reach out further, to other talent that I'm interested in, but I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time or if this is something that would only help me in the long run. I appreciate any feedback or advice you can offer.
It depends on what your goals are for the project. Are you interested in producing it yourself or for option? By people involved do you mean cast or crew? Are they industry connections or locals? If you're interested in doing it yourself, go crazy, but for option or sale you wouldn't have a say in those decisions.
It would be for sale. I'm particularly interested in a specific musician and actor but will probably end up bugging the casting director or whomever to secure those parties instead of doing it myself.
