Any Christian Screenwriters Out There??

Hello, to future connections & friends! My name is Ashanti Price. As a Christian writer, I'm passionate about merging my love for writing with my greater love for Jesus, & creating interesting ways to talk about Him, the gospel, & the grace & mercy given to us humans to entertain others. I'm eager to connect with individuals, writers, producers, directors, editors, animators, graphic designers, & more to collaborate on exciting projects like films, shows, or video games. Additionally, I have a larger business idea & would be thrilled to share my pitch with any potential investors

As I shared, my faith plays a significant role in my work. Whether bluntly or subtly, Jesus & Christian themes will be expressed in all things I would want to create, so if you do not share the same beliefs & or desire for that direct artistic expression, I fully understand why we wouldn't connect artistically or personally, but if you ever change in that area, I am open whenever you decide to go that route!

If you share the same values & excitement to collaborate, invest, share the gospel, truth, & creativity with the masses in please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks for reading. God bless you!

Jerry Smith

Hey, I wrote a screenplay; definitely faith based. I wrote it as a tribute to my Mom after she past away. If you would like to read it, let me know.

What's your favourite Christian movie? Some recent ones that I've seen are The Shift and Nefarious. They are a tad hokey, but I feel they are a step in the right direction.

Ashanti Price

Hey! I tried to watch The Shift, but I couldn't get into it because it was too like off from the point to me. I get they were trying to "retell" Job, but things didn't make sense to me personally. Never watched the other, but with it being listed as horror, I've never been into that genre, & can't see the connection when it comes to Christ. Mystery/Psychological Thriller is as "jumping a bit" as I can get.

Definitely liked War Room; classic. Then Selfie Dad, Christian Mingle, & Let There Be Light. All on Tubi, & actually really good. So there's been a lot of progress, but I definitely have some ideas already written & casually in the notes to really open the door more. Just need some more brain power to help me out lol

Travis Seppala

I have one faith-based script that's placed in a couple contests, but can never find anyone interested in it. It's called GET UP AND DANCE. It's a little like SOUL SURFER but with a ballet dancer.

Ashanti Price

I've heard of that movie! I would say that leans more towards an inspirational film rather than a faith-based one, but it definitely is a positive message when it comes to caring about others & overcoming an adversity, especially a shark attack, because that's wild! I'm more direct toward Christian faith, showing humans' messiness & connection, or lack of, with God, so if your idea is more direct, that's definitely my lane, but if you just need advice in general for something I can still appreciate as far as being positive & inspiring, I'm open to give it a read & help out!

Vidal Ramirez

Ashanti Price Valid points. I will say that Neal McDonough did a pretty amazing job playing his character in The Shift. The scene where he laughs at the guy for praying is pretty distinct in my mind. Now, a pretty solid retelling of the story of Job would have to be "A Serious Man" by the Coen Brothers, in my opinion. While not explicitly Christian, it's handles the story in such a thought provoking way.

All of those movies you listed I gotta check out. My only criticism would have to be the sentimentality often found in a few Christian movies. It can be a bit heavy handed. I hope more progress continues to be made.

Travis Seppala

Ashanti Price my GET UP AND DANCE is very much a story of 1) being introduced to God and finding faith and 2) using said faith as inspiration to fight through and overcome the odds. It was a quarter-finalist in both the Page Turner faith-based contest and the screenwriting contest at the Faith In Film film festival.

G.R. Barnett

Meee! Currently working on an animated series about a romance between a Christian and Atheist. :)

Ashanti Price

@Travis Seppala Oh, okay, cool! Congrats on the success of that! Well, I'm always open to giving the majority of faith films a chance, so I'd love to check it out & just chat about other ideas or faith in general! Sidenote: How'd you tag me? Trynna figure it out on here lol

Ashanti Price

G.R. Barnett Oh okay, interesting! Curious to know about the story and where you'd take it. I have a sci-fi story about an atheist scientist who through a VR machine he created to explore history gets encountered by Jesus & challenges his perspective on faith. Definitely wanna talk chat and share!

Erik Diaz

Hi Ashanti, a Christian writer, director here.

Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg

Recommend pitching your work to Angel Studios (angel.com) They focus on Christian content.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Welcome, Ashanti Price! I'm not a Christian myself, but I greatly admire the faith and my current major project has many Christian themes.

Erik Diaz

To pitch to Angel Studios, you’ve got to make at least a 5-minute film demo — they call it a “Torch.” If the Guild votes that they like it, then your project moves on to crowdfunding.

https://www.angel.com/es/blog/angel-studios/posts/what-is-a-torch

There aren’t many options to pitch Christian scripts. Sony, with its Affirm division, is the most active in Christian films — but they don’t actually produce them. Instead, independent producers make the films, and if Sony is interested, they handle the distribution.

From a business standpoint, there’s definitely an audience for this type of content — theaters have noticed that these films can fill seats even during normally dead hours. However, not many studios are willing to take the risk.

On the other hand, if the script deviates even slightly in theological terms, the film is doomed to fail. I know of a Catholic movie — a really good one — that stated Jesus had cousins instead of brothers. Because of that, it got no evangelical support, and performed poorly at the box office.

That’s why it’s so important for the screenwriter to understand theology and church culture — something that limits the possibilities for most writers.

I know these topics firsthand — until recently, I was producing theatrical trailers and social media ads for most Christian film distributions in Latin America. I also dream of producing Christian films.

If you check out my recent post, I made two vertical series and a short film for a contest. The short film is actually the pilot episode of a Christian series — and no, it’s not about the rapture...

The Jackpot Love series subtly touches on Christian themes as part of the story, without feeling forced — you can see it in the lyrics of the song in Episode 2 and in the moral values of the positive characters.

Alan Tregoning

I am a christian screenwriter and have been doing it professionally for about 15 years now. My most recent projects were writing on three seasons of the faith-based crime drama Vindication (Pureflix/Angel Studios) and I also spent about 18 months developing a feature with one of the directors at Kingdom Story company.

Richard M Kjeldgaard

I’ve written one about a man learning to regain faith in a world that tossed him away years before.

Ashanti Price

Alan Tregoning Oh, wow, cool! Definitely gives me some hope as far as my career, because while Christianity may look big, the screenwriters seem needle in a haystack like lol. That show looks great, I definitely give it a watch.

I have a lot of story ideas I've written, but I definitely need some more brain power to help me continue and just gain advice on it professionally and spiritually, plus some business things for someone who would want to help a start-up of something, so if you're interested in either, feel free to message me, and we can definitely talk.

Ashanti Price

Erik Diaz Hey! Cool to know that there is other fellow writers out there like myself!

I have a lot of story ideas I've written, but I definitely need some more brain power to help me continue, plus a business idea for someone who would want to help a start-up of something, so if you're interested in either, feel free to message me, and we can definitely talk. I'm also open to helping with anything as well.

Ashanti Price

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh Thank you for the welcome! Am definitely not as outgoing as far as putting myself out, so trying to be more bold. Interesting that you've decided to involve Christian themes while not being spiritually connected. Maybe that is a mini deeper moment that I hope & pray will become deeper for you.

Although I did say in my original post what my main stance is as far as connecting, I hope for the best for your career, & if you ever decide to pursue a full route with Jesus, maybe we'll connect career-wise and spiritually in the future!

Travis Seppala

Ashanti Price 1) sorry for the late response. I've been busy the last few days and haven't really been online.

2) I sent you a network request. I can't DM you to get your email to send you the script until you accept, it seems.

3) I see you've already figured out how to tag people, so no more need to answer that one. ;)
