SYNOPSIS:
BOSS OF ME is a comedy in the vein of BRIDESMAIDS and THE HANGOVER about desperate out of work friends that create a phony company, just so they can say on their resumes that they are currently employed and improve their chances of getting interviews. SPENCER PILLAR is a financial analyst, who is saving for his fiancée’s dream wedding when he gets laid off from his job. Spencer’s friend TOM TURPIN is a long-term unemployed dreamer, who spends more time organizing flash mobs than looking for work. In a brutal job market, Tom offers to create a fake company and pose as Spencer’s boss, just so Spencer can put on his resume that he is currently employed and increase his chances of landing a job interview. Spencer reluctantly takes Tom up on his offer, but Tom gets carried away with creating the phony company as he finds vacant office space, creates a company website and hires other unemployed flash mob friends, so they too can put on their resumes that they are currently employed. Tom’s fake company is so convincing that they start to get actual business, which Spencer helps Tom manage. When Spencer is offered a real job, he must choose between going with a safe, secure corporate job and keeping his engagement on track or taking a chance and helping his friends make their fake company a success and risk losing his fiancée.
Russell: Most folks don't post their screenplays here and when they do, they are often poorly written. However, I read the first ten pages of "Boss of Me" and was very impressed with your professional writing, solid dialogue and inciting incident. From what I've read the story is topical and believable.
