SYNOPSIS:
Adapted from a true story. Phoebe Drake, a Gothic girl, and her father, Dan, a former world champion bull rider, both cope with the loss of her mother. Dan’s spiralling life sends him to jail, which forces Phoebe to live with her Uncle Cecil and Aunt Burney. She begins to shed her past as Luke, the shy but handsome ranch hand, teaches her how to break horses. She naturally progresses in horse wrangling and discovers her true passion for living on the edge. In a quest to win her imprisoned father’s respect, she calls on her Uncle Cecil’s permission to ride bulls. Phoebe proves she has what it takes to become a great female bull-rider. Her gothic friends, Lisa and Tiny arrive to save Phoebe from this country bumpkin life, only to clash with fists and claws onto the bull riding scene in her support. In a sport dominated by men, she quickly realises the bull is not her biggest challenge. Bud Masterson, her arch enemy and biggest competition, sabotages the biggest ride of her career which leads to a bull-riding accident that disfigures her face. Phoebe’s father, Dan Drake is released from jail only to find his daughter broken and spiritless. As Phoebe goes through reconstructive surgeries to rebuild her face, Dan begins fighting his own demons to become the father he once was. In an effort to regain her dignity and self worth, Phoebe talks her father into training her to become a professional bull-rider. Phoebe rides her way to the World Finals Bull Riding Championship for an exciting final showdown against Bud Masterson, who attempts to sabotage any chance for Phoebe’s success. She is forced to ride El Diablo, the same bull that only two years earlier, disfigured her face. She arrives at the bull pin only to discover her face mask strap and bull rope have been cut. She has to make a decision to either forfeit or ride to take her place as the first female world champion bull-rider. She rides, beats the clock as her rope snaps, and is left lifeless on the ground. Her father rushes to her side to protect her, only to be mauled by El Diablo. Minutes later Bud is dealt a blow as he rides Terrorist, which puts both he and Dan in the same emergency operating room. As Phoebe stands on the podium to receive the top honor along with a 3 million dollar purse, Dan and Bud fight for their lives as one of them loses. The final scene at the funeral home, Phoebe dressed in black, reveals the twisted outcome of her father’s demise.
