SYNOPSIS:
Safety Harbor Haunting Script Synopsis by Nanette Fenton When Kyle Stark saw the realtor sign posted: House for Rent – he knew it would be perfect! It was an old, ordinary house on the corner of a quiet street in a beautiful, quaint Florida town. It was just what he needed after his divorce; peace, quiet, warmth and security for his twelve year old son, his old dog, and his bird. But what was not disclosed in the rental contract was his family would not be the only occupants. It wasn’t long before the cold, clawing hands of restless souls, whose unrequited lives stirred in the shadow’s lair, made their presence known with an angry and relentless unwillingness to share their newfound transient station. They entered through a portal, an unseen dimensional opening in the upstairs bedroom closet, where entities from all time and space came through to suck the energy from the living to make it their own. At first, Kyle thought he was imagining things. He knew he was exhausted from the ordeal of his divorce, and overwhelmed from the move and the loss of his business, but decided to keep a daily journal of events anyway. In a short period of time, he realized that these unexplainable events had taken on an evil and frightening detour, far from the sweet aroma of baked cookies and motherly hugs he had first encountered there, progressing to poltergeist activity, voices, footsteps, slime puddles, putrid odors, physical assault, illness, and anomalous visual manifestations that permeated every room of the house – including him! Who were they? Where did they come from? How were they able to do these things? Could he find the answers to these crazy questions - or was he going crazy? Kyle’s investigation led him to the cottage on the same property behind his house where Dana, the property manager, lived with her boyfriend. When Kyle found out that Dana was into the Dark Arts, the Ouija Board, and cocaine, he not only suspected she knew the main house was haunted (which she persistently denied) but believed she was the cause of it! Wondering if prior renters had the same experiences, Kyle contacts the three families through junk mail still arriving in the mailbox. He not only found out they all lost money upon breaking their lease due to the same paranormal activity, but was startled by the revelation that Dana’s grandmother, who owned and lived in the house he now rented, suddenly went missing two years prior: the case unsolved! During Kyle’s relentless, obsessive pursuit to gain and document enough evidence to prove the haunting, he hired a paranormal investigative group, a psychic, who (after a horrific experience) deemed the house too much to handle, and brought in two of her friends; world-renowned paranormal investigators. Kyle thought he had been validated, after all, they all came to the same conclusion: the house was haunted and the portal was in his son's bedroom closet! He now had video, photos, and witnesses to prove it! All the evidence he needed, right? Between fighting for his sanity in dealing with the entities, the maniacal property manager and her boyfriend, the Sheriff’s Office who thought he was a nut case, his paranoid ex-wife, a female K-9 Deputy who became an ally, and a sympathetic female paranormal investigator, his persistence was instrumental in solving the case of a missing person; the ghost in his house who loved to bake cookies. Sadly, there was no victory to be had when Kyle and his son moved out of the house; he lost everything. The adverse psychological and physical impact of their ordeal, and the impact on those who dared enter the house, would forever bear the scars etched in their psyche from the cold, clawing hands of the restless souls of the dead whose secrets still lie in the shadow’s lair. Screenplay based on a true story! Also have a documentary on the real investigation with world renowned Paranormal experts Dr. William Roll and George McMullen.
