Mildred Pierce, Laura , Brighton Rock, Double Indemnity. Unforgettable Sirens, Hard Boiled Cops, and Protagonists/Antagonists. I could do with watching a new noir, and now sifting through all the B movie noirs of 40s/50s/60s , to find something I haven't yet watched. Most are Scandinavian with no English subtitles, but I get the plot in some cases from the sheer toxicity/passion/conflict of the characters on screen. (I'm away location). A lot of early noir hones in on thoughts and feelings, with close ups on interactions of players, dialogue led on intimate sets......and I just love the lighting techniques. Noir Friday Noir Fans!

I'll be obvious and go ultra-noir with "Sin City" and Brian de Palma, and less obvious and go with "Brick".

Great choices, Luisa. I also love Momento.

Is it heretical that "Memento" is the only Nolan film I like?
Haha! I'm just glad you at least like one of his films. Have you seen Dark City. Underated gem.

The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, A Touch of Evil.
Great selections, James. Touch of Evil never gets mentioned as much as it should.
Maltese Falcon, Out of the Past, and Gun Crazy.
I'm admittedly deficient in this genre, but Masahiro Shinoda's Pale Flower from the Japanese New Wave is a serious standout.
Maltese Falcon, Big Sleep, and Double Indemnity.
