Aspiring Screenwriter Looking for the Next Step...

Screenwriters, I'd like some advice: Your screenplay is finished. You spent countless hours writing and rewriting a script that, once you type those two words "FADE OUT", feel more confident in it than anything else you've ever put your name to. How and where do you begin promoting your work? What has worked for you in the past? I have entered my screenplay into 3 big competitions for this year; have you personally had any breakthrough in doing so? I'm new to this site, so I'm sure opportunity is here, I'm just curious to know what has worked for some of you that turned your dream into a reality.

Congrats Meredith. You can post it here under your loglines on your profile page and request any free will reviews or offer exchange reviews. Tell us your genre, page count and synopsis. Good luck.

Hey Meredith, I wrote a series of articles for what to do when you've typed FADE OUT, you might find them useful... http://www.anthonycawood.co.uk/articles/

I have gained some attention from being a finalist in the Scriptdoctors contest of contest.

Hey, Meredith , congrats on writing your first screenplay. Yes, as Pierre said, you will find very giving individuals here. I speak by experience. Always update your profile and if you comfortable upload your loglines and scripts. You can also submit your work to contest, who will also give feedback. In the education section of Stage 32, you will find classes and webinars and the happy writers president Joey Tuccio also offers free webinars with industry guest, from time to time. One last point and most importantly is that you write as much as possible, as if you are already a hired screenwriter.. Read lots of screenplays, they are free online. This is a great community, we are here for another, as is the entire Stage 32 team, including our CEO Richard "RB" Botto. Stay active in the lounges and begin building your network. Welcome and best of luck on your journey here with all of us.

When you are sure your script is strong enough to seal the deal for you, in addition to building credibility with contest wins, you can also reach out to your college alumni network if there are well-placed alumni who can help move you forward.

What I said to the other writer who just typed Fade Out - write some more screenplays. A career is not one screenplay, it's a stack of them. When trying to land representation or even gets scripts to a producer, you need to keep hammering away with query letters for new scripts, which means you need to always have a new script.

Meredith: Good advice that folks have offered. Check out this link for my two cents. https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting/Here-are-my-tips-for-fellow...

Stage32 offers pitch sessions to allow you to (directly, for a fee) pitch your script via Skype to an industry executive who is looking for more material. Before the modern internet, pitch sessions and pitchfests were "a thing" and you can find advice inline about it. Personally I would like to do this once I have a script that receives stellar feedback from peer reviewers or professional readers, but I an still far away from that.

Thank you all so much for your valuable insight and feedback! I truly appreciate it; it has actually motivated me to the point where I think I'm going to head home tonight and start working on a short that I've had in mind.

Erik Grossman

The next thing I do is prepare to pitch it! Personally, I just free-write the story in a synopsis, then chip away until it's a tight 2 pages (and use some formatting to add some flair). I then take that written pitch and play with it until it makes for a good verbal pitch as well. Lastly, I write up a quick one-pager with characters and full synopsis. Prepare to answer any questions they might have, and get to pitching! If you want to receive an email whenever an executive specializing in your genre comes in, send assistant@stage32.com a message and they'll add you to the list!

Excellent advice, William - write, write. Eric, thank you as well, you are helping me.
