Welcome Tiffany Hilliard. If you are looking to jump into the deep end consider joining the writer's room. There's lots of great writers, helpful webinars, and opportunities to practice pitching and hone those skills. Reach out to Jason Mirch j.mirch@stage32.com, he'll get you started. Hope to see you in the lounges.
Your initial reaction to my next statement is important for you:
“quit now”
If your reaction was “what an asshole”, then welcome aboard. If you thought “may be he is right” then give finding something that makes you happy some serious thought. Writing isn’t hard like coal mining, but it is many many hours, weeks, months and years with no change in your status or success. If you find joy in the work you’ll be fine.
The happiest people here and in the industry love the work and would probably do it for free (which most of do). I hope you get help from this forum and I wish you alll the success in the world.
Welcome! I wouldn't call myself an aspiring renowned writer. I mostly would like to direct, but on my path to get there I have been writing scripts ever day since I was sixteen!
Hi Tiffany, it took me ages to learn enough to write my first screenplay (pilot), but the second came far more quickly. I took a couple of writing workshops with Spencer Robinson who really helped me to find my way. Good luck with all your efforts.
Hi, Tiffany Hilliard and welcome aboard! I definitely second my fellow Writers' Room members, Louisa Kendrick Burton and Aray! I cannot recommend the WR more! It's an amazing place to hone in on your skills as a writer, learn about the business directly from executives and have the opportunity to pitch to working industry exec's. It's also an amazing place to find your writing family! We practice pitches and script coverage - which is so helpful whether it's your pitch/script or someone else's. Please do reach out to Jason Mirch (j.mirch@stage32.com), the Director of Script Services, for a free month to check it out! There are also TONS of other services here on the platform. Check out the "Education" tab for ways to learn about the craft and business and the "Script Services" tab for the opportunity to pitch or submit your script for coverage. Don't forget to include your loglines on your profile - totally free - and there are a ton of free blogs and education. Happy writing!
