Happy Monday, Community! What's a movie you recently watched that you were surprised to have enjoyed as much as you did?
I, for example, knew that I'd like KING RICHARD? But, was not prepared to enjoy it neeeeeearly as much as I did (it's so lovely).
Sound off!

Hi, Angela Cristantello and Sophia Charlotte. I recently watched "The Tomorrow War." It was better than I thought it would be. I read a review about the script a while ago that said the story had problems, but the movie was entertaining.

THAT one I still have to check out, but my husband had a super good time watching it!

When harry met sally and notting hill. I am not really into rom-coms but I discovered I really like the older ones.

Sophia Charlotte I really enjoy Jumanji, great cast,
I'm studying some adventure comedy ensemble films and I love the chemistry of Karen Gillan and Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart,
I feel like it's a great pace and the flavor of embedded comical dialogue is quite situational, I like pieces like this more than sort of heavily verbal punchline type comedy.

Deep dive last night, I re-watched The Water Boy with Adam Sandler and Kathy Bates, still hilarious although totally offensive haha in so many ways

Uncharted was considerably better than I expected. In general, I always cringe when they decide to make a movie based on a game. Because I actually play the games that tend to get made into movies, so I can see the flaws. While it was not a perfect movie, it was quite good for what was intended. I even wrote a review of it. https://djmmtgamechangerdoc.wordpress.com/2022/02/22/uncharted-movie-rev...

I'd obviously heard great things about Whiplash but I finally got around to seeing it. Wow. Just wow.

Cinema buffs know that "Oh, God!" is a popcorn classic, but I finally watched it last night and it's a surprisingly enjoyable film. Interesting and very forward-thinking for 1977

American Splendor. I've never been into underground comics, but Paul Giamatti's performance drew me right in.

West Side Story reboot.
The star of the movie is Spielberg. At his age, he's still schooling us: best shooter in his profession. Cinematic.

I think you should check out "The Tomorrow War," Angela Cristantello. The concept was creative. I like how some of the relationships were handled. Chris Pratt was great.

King Richard is a pleasant surprise indeed. I ventured into the Western genre with Old Henry.

Chocolat by Juliette Binoche is a wonderful story. It catches you off guard with its storyline and a small cameo by Johnny Depp! and King Arthur with Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Mads Mikkelsen, and the ever great Stellan Skarsgård! Both movies surprised me a lot. Both are highly entertaining for the senses.

Fun random fact. I watched King Richard and the next day ran into Venus Williams having lunch. Yes I loved the movie!

Encanto is a masterwork, and the culmination of every single craft and technology Disney animation has committed themselves to. I don’t think anyone was prepared for how good it is.

Dan, I am so sad that I missed West Side Story on the big screen, but I'm watching the screener this weekend and I cannot wait.
So many movies in this list that I haven't seen in SO long that I already can't wait to dip back into. And Tennyson, once I'm done with these screeners, Encanto is the very next thing I'm watching. Again, I'm sad to have missed this one on the big screen, too but I am just so excited to see it.

For comedies: 'fighting with my family' and 'vacation friends.' Outside that, 'the last duel.' Not sure what else.
