Introduce Yourself : Writer/director/producer of "The Scripty" by Carlton T. Saito

Carlton T. Saito

Writer/director/producer of "The Scripty"

We will be shooting my dramedy short film "The Scripty" in Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 26 & 27. It is a 10-page script. I have my cast but need Oahu-based crew, especially a sound mixer. Please see my posting in the Jobs section.

My other crew needs are 2nd AD/slate operator, assistant camera operator, boom mic operator and (ironically given the title) a script supervisor. My previous script supervisor had to drop out because of family issues. I may possibly also need an Oahu-based editor and a composer.

This is a micro-micro-budget production that I'm financing myself. Everyone involved is working without pay but for film credit. Once completed, I intend to submit this short film to film festivals.

Everyone involved must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and boosted; be willing to take a rapid antigen test on the first day and wear a N95 mask, except when eating or drinking. I will provide the tests and masks.

Any Oahu-based crew interested in participating, please e-mail me at storieswithheart@yahoo.com.

Thank you,

Carlton Saito

Hi Carlton! Awesome to see that you are working on another project. Best of luck to you !

Carlton T. Saito

Thanks, Gabrielle. Actually, it has been rescheduled twice and grown to 15 pages of script to be shot over seven shooting days. I lost the first location because my contact who was the general manager there flaked out and went incommunicado with his organization's board of directors. And I couldn't find a sound mixer.

Then I had the main shoot scheduled July 22-24. We shot for two days. But the night before the third day, my DP's father fell. His father complained of pain, so he went by ambulance to the hospital. I thought my DP would be sleep-deprived after staying at the ER until 5 a.m., three hours before we were supposed to shoot. So I called off that day's shooting and rescheduled.

We will be shooting in Kaimuki 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.on Saturday, August 13, and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 14.

Email me at storieswithheart@yahoo.com if you would like to be involved as a crew member.

Thanks,

Carlton

Sorry to hear about the reschedules. I usually have my kids so I don't get to volunteer for crews as much as I'd like. But I heard from my friend Jennifer Varenchik that your project went really well. Just wanted to say thanks for recommending Stage 32 to me last year. I have been using it quite alot since January. Thanks :)

Carlton T. Saito

Hi, Gabrielle,

I didn't know you knew Jennifer. She was indispensable. She started as my script supervisor but stepped in as talent when one of my actors bailed out the day before shooting.

Gabrielle Nehring

She mentioned that. We are very good friends. She and I met through HFC's writer's program. After she did the short film of In Our Own Hands, she hired me to write the full length version of it. We are currently in the semifinals of the Screencraft Film Fund for it. Aiming to make the feature next year.

Carlton T. Saito

Jennifer did tell me that she was looking to make the feature next year. I didn't know that you are the writer.

Sounds Very intetesting Carlton.I know Im a little late for this one, however I'd love to be an 2nd AD / slate operator or camera assistant on future gigs shot in Hawaii. Ive done all of those gigs and much more ,many times. I worked as Second unit Ad on the project bellow that was picked up by the Syfi Channel.Im still building my profile of Stage 32,so Im adding a lot more photo's on set and video's of my productions with my start-up company. www.AbsoluteCinemaStudios.Com. I can send you my resume. Are you flying people out for certain gigs. I live in Los Angeles/ Dallas Texas.

Hi, Donald. Thank you for your interest. The project was delayed. However, I completed production on this short film 2 weeks ago and am in post-production. Also, my production is a micro-micro-micro-budget project that used all Oahu-based people. We could not afford to fly anyone over. And I didn't even have a 1st AD, much less a 2nd AD. Those positions would have to wait until I make a feature, if I ever get the funding to do so.

Donald Wayne

Cool! I'd love to see the finish production.Let me know when its avalible to see. Keep me in mind when you get a budget. Id like to help out.

Great to meet you, Carlton T. Saito. How are you doing?

Carlton T. Saito

It will take a while for the finished film. I'll be editing it myself. I know Final Cut Pro, but I'm trying to learn DaVinci Resolve 18. When it's done, I'll be submitting to film festivals, and that's a long process.
