Introduce Yourself : Here to help, meet good people, and do some networking of my own by Thunder Levin

Here to help, meet good people, and do some networking of my own

I'm probably best known as the writer of the SHARKNADO movies, and I have about a dozen produced screenwriting credits including Syfy's ZOMBIE TIDAL WAVE, but I've always seen myself as a director primarily and I've written & directed four features including AMERICAN WARSHIPS for the Syfy Channel and the indie film MUTANT VAMPIRE ZOMBIES FROM THE 'HOOD!

I'm teaching a class here starting June 3rd on "Writing The High Concept Feature", and I'm also available for consultations, script feedback, "first tens", etc. I enjoyed the pitch session I did last week and heard some great stories.

For my own work, I'm always looking for new producing partners with access to financing or who just enjoy "playing the game", which I so do not.  And currently, I'm looking for new representation.

Maurice Vaughan

Cool shades, Thunder Levin. What's that house? I've seen it in other strike pictures.

Emily J

Love that sign and hat Thunder Levin! Your lab looks so awesome, I can't wait to see the fun scripts that come out of it!

Sydney S

Love it!!

Ashley Renee Smith

Great picture, Thunder Levin! Thank you for reintroducing yourself to the community!

Sam Sokolow

Awesome to have you in the community, Thunder. Good to see you picketing, as well. I believe that's the old mansion on the Culver lot where Amazon currently resides. Rock on!

Maurice Vaughan

Ok, thanks, Sam.

Olivia Drake

Hi Thunder! Nice to meet you! Can I ask what was the best part of making Sharknado? And what was the biggest challenge?

Thunder Levin

Maurice, Sam is correct. It's the historic Culver Studios, currently home to Amazon.

Thunder Levin

Olivia, I wasn't really involved in the production of of the first Sharknado after turning in my script. After I chose not to direct it (brilliant career move, huh?!) I moved on to directing a science fiction film called "AE: Apocalypse Earth", which shot in the rainforests of Costa Rica at the same time Sharknado was shooting in Los Angeles. But from conversations I've had with Anthony Ferrante, the director, the biggest challenge was that the script called for constant rain and flooding, and they shot it over 18 days of beautiful L.A. sunshine!

The biggest challenge of shooting The Second One was that the story was set during the summer and we were shooting in New York, in February, during the coldest winter in recent memory!

The best part? That's easy. The way it's been embraced by audiences all around the world and the great people I've gotten to meet as a result.

Thunder Levin Hi Thunder, yes, “playing the game” is not something I enjoy either. It’s great to have a Producer who can work their magic in that theatre of finance.

Sam Vanivray

Truly an inspiration for us all. I'm an LA transplant from the East Coast too—but from Boston not NY.

Cindi Maciolek

Hi Thunder! Great to see you here! I'm the person who has the Ian Ziering Sharknado alarm on my Alexa. Gets me out of bed every morning!

Patrick Gatov

Nice to meet you, Thunder!

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Thunder Levin. Maybe make a strike sign about "Sharknado." :)

Ben Johnson Jr.

Great to meet you. I'm a screenwriter from South Africa. I'm busy with a Stage 32 course at the moment, but would love to dive into yours when I'm done this one and learn your business model and writing techniques. Happy Sunday.

Dustin Richardson

Hi Thunder Levin! Nice to meet the man behind the Sharknado haha. I see you were striking at Culver Studios! I was there last week! Congrats on your success with the Syfy channel.

Howdy, from someone also in solidarity with the WGA. I write rom-coms, some with sci-fi elements (for example, a Vegas casino waitress who becomes a showroom headliner after accidentally tripling in size!). Best wishes.

Dave Corey

As a SAG-AFTRA member for 4 decades and having served on the National Board, I'm in total solidarity with the WGA! Also, I encourage SAG-AFTRA members to vote for the critical 2023 TV/Theatrical Strike Authorization. #SAGAFTRAstrong
