I'm an independent Writer and Director, that entered my TV Pilot Screenplay to Film Festivals and won 12 Awards thus far. I'm wondering if I can start searching for an agent now? Peace, Gaby Day
You're welcome, Gaby Day. Ok, cool. I suggest building up your portfolio with scripts before looking for an agent. Or even a manager. They'll most likely want to see a portfolio, not just one or two scripts. A lot of times writers get managers before agents.
Here's a blog and article I think you should check out:
I also suggest building relationships/networking with producers, directors, writers, etc. on Stage 32 in the meantime. Who knows? You might build a relationship with a producer/etc. who recommends you to an agent down the line.
Hi Gaby! Wow! Congratulations on all the success your scripts are having. It's never too early or too late to find an agent, but I would encourage you to buy pitch sessions here with Lit Managers (who are more helpful with your creative process and will arrange meetings for you with producers AND help you find an agent). It's an opportunity to get great and actionable feedback, make an impression, and -- who knows— maybe find a manager. Nice to meet you!
Gaby Day congrats on launching a successful career. I’m going to suggest something counter to most folks: agent hunting is fine but consider producing one of your scripts (as well). Waiting for representation is a tricky, often frustrating game made a little more palatable if you’re ALSO producing your own films. Becoming a filmmaker opens many doors that might otherwise be closed to a writer. A shift in paradigm means thinking of your options not as either or — but as both or multiple career options. ✌
