If you were around when THE BREAKFAST CLUB came out, there was no internet. There was your real life and these actors depicting what you may be emotionally experiencing on the big screen. It was a big chapter for Hollywood. Is anyone else excited to see BRATS?
I just saw a trailer for it. Definitely want to see it. I watched all those movies when they came out. Watched Breakfast Club last summer for a movie night - so interesting watching it in this time. But they were all so cool.
Have to say, the doc exceeded my expectations. Thought it was very well realized with something much deeper than the obvious bubbling below the surface.
Related, here's a followup from David Blum who wrote the original article for New York magazine.
Thanks, Richard "RB" Botto - that was a great followup piece by Blum. I didn't realize how Sean Penn eviscerated him back in day. They've all mostly proved to be super talented and adored and have withstood (or even won) the test of time.
The exploration of human nature and one's individual philosophy within this doc is fascinating, Sam Sokolow. Blum contradicts himself quite a bit during his interview with McCarthy and within this Vulture piece. As for McCarthy himself, it's clear that his experience was mostly singular. Lowe, Moore and Sheedy clearly took away positives from the whole situation if they even thought much about it at all.
It’s a great lesson about fame and why we seek it. Before me, they said, never believe your own press. Being a brat might be better than being a rat, and Sammy Davis Jr. didn’t care. Andrew McCarthy might have explained who the Rat Pack were to a younger audience. A cultural note, even the moniker Gen X was negative initially: an unknown quantity in math. And I find it ironically hipster now. So very Class of 85. No Internet and John Hughes. Vinyl and malls. Totally rad dude.
Agree with Bender, eh Richard, I mean I was like all the time thinking when is Bender going to react And the makers of this docu new I was not the only one, just as I had lost all hope -- BINGO!! Just one question left: "Did Bender really call back, or was Andrew McCarthy pretending he did because he wanted the perfect ending, even if, in extremes, it could escalate into a law suit for stating false information. I guess I will never know for sure!

I'm SO excited to watch it! I was obsessed with Brat Pack movies when I was a kid. My mom and I would watch them on repeat together.
