Anything Goes : Partnerships by Kevin Hager

Partnerships

I have often wondered something; some organizations make an offer or a partnership and licensing. I would like to know what that is about. I know that you could probably ask a company permission to use their property and trademarks, but what does partnership mean.

Suzanne Bronson

That's what Google is for.

Kevin Hager

I am serious, I would like a direct answer.

Tom Lapke

Hey Kevin Hager. I am not sure if you are asking about partenerships in general or specific to a certain industy. I am going to answer as iif you are asking in general and hope it covers either scenario.

I

t can mean any number of things but at the end of the day, it is two entities (individual person or a company) with semi-aligned interests who agree to contractual terms to share some or all of their resources to achieve a goal or goals.

Some (made up) examples:

The USA Olympic Teams partner with Taco Bell to promote the US in the Olympics by creating a special meal that is named after and branded with USA Olympic athletes. USA Olympics does this because they know a large number of 18-24 year olds eat Taco Bell and they want to capture that demographic when the Olympics air on TV. Taco Bell does it because they know it is great for their image to have people equate Taco Bell with Athletes, thereby making people think it might be healthy.

Two production companies partner together to produce an indie feature. Neither has the total resources needed to produce the picture on their own, but together they can bring it to fruition.

A TikTok Fashion influencer partners with a clothing brand to film some TikTok wearing and talking about their clothes. The influencer gets free clothes and probably some money and the clothing brand gets access to their 800K followers, many of which are into fashion and might buy the clothing company's products.

I hope that helps.

We are an International Studio Without Borders or Walls, so partnership is our middle name. We will partner with other companies in the industry, like on a project right now, we are partnering with companies, in the U.S., Canada, Austria, even as far away as the Island of Tasmania. We also will partner with big companies like the Fortune 500 and the Global 1000 to help get our projects made.

Kevin Hager licensing is for the use of product or existing IP. Partnership is a legal agreement to create something between two parties. As with any of these things, you’ll need to consult with a legal professional, don’t try and do this on your own volition.

Kevin Hager

Mr. Mandelcorn maybe you could partner with organizations that raise awareness of issues like bullying, harassment, relationship/domestic abuse. Including gang violence, drug abuse, and trafficking. Is that possible?

Lark Anderson

Currently I have a partnership with a group that allows me to use their company name in my book series, the members of their group, and their likeness. There's a contract between us that outlines what I am allowed to use, the number of books I'm allowed to write, and other details. I get licenses to use their pictures and logos, and I put their logos on the covers along with members of the group.. It also dictates payment.

The partnership is what you want it to be.

Pat Alexander

Every deal is pretty different based on the two parties needs and considerations. You can ask for whatever. They can ask for whatever and you'll likely meet somewhere in the middle. I've worked with brands on film shoots before and the goal is just to build awareness for them and give them prominent placement as advertising in exchange for whatever you need, whether that's funding, resources, and sometimes even equipment companies will sponsor you.

Eugene Mandelcorn

Hi Kevin, you hit the nail on the proverbial head, that is exactly what we are trying to do. Every time we make an agreement with someone to weave their product, company, or service into one of our films we are attempting to offer solutions to problems we face in the world today, like the ones you mentioned.

Kevin Hager

I know this is impossible, but is it possible that a single person can partner with an entertainment company? What if it is for a service for issues that I mentioned?

Eugene Mandelcorn

We do it all the time. One applies for membership and if accepted you are a partner.

Kevin Hager

So Eugene to try and understand it, if I wanted to partner with Disney, and possibly other organizations to raise awareness of the issues I had mentioned through storytelling, and donations to charity it's possible? What if I have no organization of my own and I am just one person.
