Introduce Yourself : Even later than never! by Aaron Heinrich

Even later than never!

Hi Stage 32 Community.

This is my first time posting in the Introduce Yourself Lounge. I am returning to screenwriting after a significant absence, but have since dusted off two previous scripts and took a large axe and scissors to two to of them -- The Killing Dream and Hellbound Train -- and got the former into a pretty good place. (I just learned this morning it is moving forward with one of the OWAs -- erotic thriller.) The latter could use some help - stakes aren't clearly scary enough for what's supposed to be a supernatural thriller. Imagine being stuck on a train bound for hell and you keep crashing with it until you figure a way off or spend eternity repeating the cycle!)

I've also written two other scripts - St. Nick (St. Nicholas - the late 3rd/early4th Century monk, and patron saint of children not the jolly old elf, returns to Earth as a vigilante against child abuse), and The Way Things Are - a WW2 romantic drama about the Mexican migrant workers and German POWs who found themselves working side by side in the fields and farms or western Nebraska.

The job that pays the bills is as head of marketing for the ABC affiliate in Sacramento, CA. The job that fills my soul is screenwriting...actually writing period.

Looking forward to getting to know more of you here and perhaps in person.

Best,

Aaron

Welcome back Aaron!

Pat Alexander

Hey Aaron Heinrich welcome back! Sometimes you gotta break out the scissors and chop chop, so great job by you doing the hard work!

Sam Sokolow

Hi Aaron Heinrich - it's great to meet you here in the community! Glad you posted in the lounge! Does working in media marketing inform your writing in any way?

Aaron Heinrich

Pat Alexander Thanks. Yes, I call it blunt force editing!

Aaron Heinrich

@SamSokolow Good question. Kind of. It just keeps me writing 15 and 30 second spots and trying to tell a story in that very short amount of time.

Lisa Harrison

Aaron, thank you for introducing yourself here. I am a semi-retired writer/producer after a 40-year career in marketing, public relations, higher education, publishing, and fund raising. I currently supplement my retirement by writing grants for nonprofits. My second career and passion is my production company, SimplyFilm Productions, and my first two projects are both set in my hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. The first, award-winning screenplay is a romantic comedy, The Wish List. the second, still-in-the-works script is a true life drama, Down To Tuscaloosa which parallels my memoir with the same title. To see more about me and my “Southern stories,” go to my website at www.simplyfilmprod.com I am looking for collaborators and mentors if you have any interest. sorry to hijack your post, but I found it interesting!

Aaron Heinrich

Lisa Harrison sounds like we have some background in common. I'll definitely check out your site and be in touch.

Sam Rivera

hi Aaron Heinrich it’s great to meet you and to learn about your writing journey, i know you said you have 2 scripts are there any other stories or concepts your developing?

Aaron Heinrich

Sam Rivera yes, the two others I mentioned in my initial post -- St Nick and the other The Way Things Are. I think both could use another edit, and feedback on the latter is that I might want to consider writing it as a book first. I had sent it to Dallaslynn Lamb as a written pitch and she liked the story, but thought it might be expensive to produce. Given it's a period piece, she's probably not wrong. But the two main characters have a story to tell. St. Nick could use a few more elements to add some depth to some ancillary characters.
