Haven't written a single scripted word or logged onto THE WRITER'S ROOM in six weeks. Here's why....

Hello, fellow Scribe-heads? (Please pardon my blatant RIP-OFF of Jimmy Buffet's Parrot heads.) Question: Name something GREAT (or not so great) that keeps YOU away from screenwriting? I've been away because I rescued this little guy from a local shelter. I've named him PAUL NEWMAN. He's a lot of fun-- smart, sneaky, goofy, and BEYOND Super-Cute-Adorable-Good-Looking! (OMG! Just like Newman.)

Dammit, man. I may never write again.

Maurice Vaughan

Cute dog, Bill Brock! I like his name. Sleep is something great that keeps me away from screenwriting. :D

Sydney S

The pup has the sweetest eyes, made my day!

Nande Orcel

What a cutie! A very welcomed distraction!! Doom scrolling on social media and my day job can be a hindrance to screenwriting for me sometimes lol :(

T.B. Johnson

I'm also writing a novel, so less and less script-writing recently :)

Dan MaxXx

vacations, birthdays & anniverary events, softball games, long drives in the convertible, enjoying Summer weather before it's gone.

Ashley Renee Smith

Awww! What a precious baby!!

I completely understand, Bill Brock! My puppy takes up most of my time and attention too. It's very easy for me to set aside my writing in the evening when he snuggles up or brings me a toy. I'm a sucker for his attention.

Bill Brock

Maurice Vaughan Thanks, Maurice. I've named most of my dogs after celebs-- DEAN (James Dean). MOLLY (Molly Ringwald, and now PAUL!

Bill Brock

Sydney S Same as Newman's. He's a good boy! Goofy, smart, and so, so SNEAKY! Bonus: A great cuddle buddy!

Bill Brock

Dan Guardino Ha! Good one, Dan!

Bill Brock

Nande Orcel Ah! The dreaded doom schrolling. The latest national sport.

Bill Brock

T.B. Johnson Bravo on the book, man!

Bill Brock

Dan MaxXx What do you drive, Dan? I, too, have a convertible (with the rare factory-optioned hardtop.) Mine is a 2004 Honda S-2000. Sadly, I've kept that top on because.... it just LOOKS COOLER!!! : )

Bill Brock

Ashley Renee Smith Same here. Puppies are little babies with fur. : )

Bill Brock

Mike Childress What's keeping you from sleeping, Mike? The normal daily grind?

Bill Albert

And I bet he's worth every second of it. Luckily mine's at the point where she's comfortable enough that when I sit down at the computer to right she usually curls up on the chair and naps. Admittedly there are times I offered her the writing part of it so I could nap.

Dan MaxXx

Bill Brock we have a mini cooper; always wanted S2000 but I couldnt find a clean one but did own a Miata with race suspension

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Bill Brock. That's a cool way to name pets. You have a LONG list of names to pick from.

William Parsons

Ashley, what a cutie!

William Parsons

Bill Brock, he's TOO cute! Thanks for sharing — and thanks for rescuing Paul!

William Parsons

For me, what distracts me from my screenwriting is definitely my creating webpages on my writing website for my characters and for my stories. I'm forever tweaking those! And when I'm not working on those webpages, I'm working on my writing universe's genealogy in Ancestry.com that I've been building for more than thirty years now. It's a mania — I tell myself I need to stop and get back to screenwriting, but before I know it I've shot an entire day's opportunity to write. That sound you just heard was me slapping my forehead!

Debbie Croysdale

6 days is longest I’ve gone without writing for a novel or script, (own work or others request.) Only “stop” for emergencies. EG; a friend was attacked by a Bully XL dog & I spent 3 days searching vicinity for owner. Even if unwell always manage to scribble ideas on paper & on holidays friends my friends sometimes hide my laptop.

Chase Cysco

Bill Brock just try to flow and not force anything !! you never no you might start writing about you & your dog lol (:

Asmaa Jamil

Bill Brock - maybe doing research on topics of interest can help motivate you to write something new. It helps me.

Amanda Toney

OMG I love Paul Newman, but we miss you Bill! You missed Meg LeFauve in the Writers Room!

Bill Brock

William Parsons Damn, Will! Sounds like you are ROCKING IT! Good luck with the Fam-Fam. Thanks for the forehead slap. It made me laugh. : )

Bill Brock

Debbie Croysdale Wow, Deb! Great stamina and determination! I think I may throw in the towel, having just finished feature screenplay #8. I used to be an actor. Got bored. Quit. My screenwriting career may be on the same flight path. : )

Bill Brock

Chase Cysco Great advice, Chase. But then again, I REALLY enjoy my breaks away. As a former teacher (now retired), summers off were that career's gems. As a professional part-time actor, once I finished another stage play, always looked forward to a nice break. The same is now true with my screenwriting. Nothing on the horizon. No worries.

Bill Brock

Asmaa Jamil Enjoying my time away. I've never subscribed to writing EVERY day. God, what a waste of time. It's just not in my DNA.

Bill Brock

Amanda Toney Thanks, Amanda, for the kind words. Just really enjoying my time away from "The 32." This new little guy is a lot of fun. My priority right now is spending quality time with him and not staring at a computer screen. Tick-Tock. Tick Tock. Life is short. Go with what brings you Happiness! : )

Asmaa Jamil

Bill Brock - I like this.

Pat Alexander

Heck yeah, that's so fun! Maybe you can teach Paul about your love of screenwriting and he can become the first dog screenwriter along the way!
