A present-day science fiction film, The New Form Project details the introduction of extraterrestrial life to humankind under the most dire of circumstances, at least from the aliens’ perspective.

The alien populace has long been ravaged by a disease for which it has no cure. In an effort to find one, they have spread scientists across the galaxy to test aboriginal species for immunity. In a relative backwater, the much less technologically advanced humans are not expected to yield much in this regard, but when a lab accident generates the desired effect in a pair of abductee test subjects, Earth becomes the center point of the entire species' last hope for survival.

Once word of the long-sought antidote reaches the alien home world, two factions within the dying culture begin debating the way in which they will secure their salvation. On the one hand, there is the scientific community which wants to find a peaceful solution and which intends to embrace the culture that helps provide it. On the other hand, there is the militaristic arm of the race that has an “at all costs” attitude when it comes to securing a cure. The decision making process of which approach will be taken is played out in both lecture halls and war rooms.

Meanwhile, the first surviving pair of Earthling test subjects has unexpectedly adopted new abilities, which are not coincidentally those of their alien captors. (In a twist, we discover that human beings are actually an offshoot of this same species intermingled with the humanoid creatures native to Earth, as inter-breeding was how the aliens intended to sow the seeds for a cure.) The teenaged couple's new-found superior intellect, a result of gaining access to their brain’s full power, and their ability to communicate directly mind-to-mind, allows them to escape the spaceship where they were being held captive.

Central to their gambit is the use of a gravity manipulation device. Unbeknownst to the escapees, it is this same technology that has the military intent on capturing the very ship they flee.

In the 1950’s (within Area 51 just like all the conspiracy theorists had said all along), an alien ship crashed, and its apparent power source remains as much a mystery seven decades later as it was when first recovered. A top-secret branch of the Army seeks to understand how the aliens were able to manipulate gravity such that it serves as a limitless source of clean energy and the force behind interstellar travel.

Not all those concerned with the gravity drive are members of the Army, however, as there is a “black ops” agency embedded within the research facility which wants to gain control of the new technology for its own purposes as well.

Meanwhile, as part of their escape, the couple decides to bring with them an alien scientist and the embryo it has modified to survive the deadly disease. During their time together, the biologist explains the uber-serious nature of the situation, telling them of how they could help introduce his kind to the world, gaining benefits that would save an otherwise doomed Earth. With its aid they are able to evade the attempted capture and seek out an ideal “first contact” representative of humankind.

The story comes to a head as humanity is fiercely divided between the dueling notions of cooperation and resistance. Which side would “win” is to a great extent dictated by which faction within the alien race gets its way. It is unclear if the New Form Project will end up creating a new super species, or if it will be the first shot in a war for survival....
