A Superfan stalks the stars of a film version of his favorite show. Leading up to a deadly conclusion.
SYNOPSIS:
SUPERFAN
A group of kids consisting of Felix Hershaw, Bernie Harlan, Jimmy Cooke, Jerry Lansing, Carl Foley, and Sarah Benson and others are fans of a science fiction show called Star Voyagers and at a convention meet the cast and the lead actor Richard Vogel who portrays lead character Chance Mason and signs a poster and tells them to have fun. Afterwards they watch an episode and begin role-playing Star Voyagers with Felix as the Captain.
Years later Felix now a grown man with his friends now grown still do Role Playing of Star Voyagers, and it has taken a toll on their personal lives using a section of his and his sister Monica’s basement as a command center/” ship”. Monica Hershaw still tolerates them and is dating a man named David Preston a single father who has tried to convince Felix and his friends to grow up. On the day Felix is supposed to watch David’s kids he takes them to a convention when they hear that a Star Voyagers film is being made, believing that it will be a revival the group (calling themselves a Crew) are shocked to learn the movie will instead be a reboot with Richard Vogel the former star now a director and producer will be producing with new director Ben Larrimore and Richard will be passing his former role to a new actor named Scott Hunter and his wife Genie Hunter will portray a character named Aliyah Gen and will be Chance Mason’s love-interest (which did not happen in the series). Upset by this, and the changes Felix sends Sarah to stop them and convince them not to go through with the film, but soon after learning the reasons and meeting Spencer Garrett and the two fall in love, and after a hostile confrontation with Felix and the others she leaves and pursues a life with Spencer and a new career.
David and Monica take a break when David learns that Felix ignored his kids in favor of Star Voyagers and Felix decides to declares his Crews new mission to prevent the film and make a revival and declares the new cast enemies of Star Voyagers, going through online petitions and protests which are blown off, and Felix begins to unravel, he begins to secretly stalk the new cast and Sarah and vandalizes her car and home. The crew attempts to see Walter Wood the former producer and director of Star Voyagers-now retired, but they are turned down as he accepts the reboot, angered Felix manages to sneak into his home and accidently murders him, Felix keeps this from his crew viewing it as a captain’s mission. Felix sends the crew on a mission to protest some of the new cast homes, and that is where they meet the Hunters along with some of the new cast and the Hunter’s daughter Sophia and learn that they are also fans, Scott, Genie and Richard who arrives tell them about some of the changes, while Scott reveals how Star Voyagers inspired him as a kid and wants to do the same thing. Richard acknowledges them as true fans as they are only inspired and not obsessed to the point where they waste their lives on Star Voyagers. Realizing Sarah’s new take on life they decide to let go of their obsession and move on much to Felix’s anger, Bernie begins to excel at his job and gets a promotion and becomes more sociable, Jimmy makes amends with his estranged girlfriend and restores their relationship, Carl decides to open a comic and book shop, and Jerry takes a writing course to become a sci-fi writer.
Felix on the other hand starts to snap and believes the enemy has corrupted his crew and that the mission will succeed and initiates the REDX Initiative (used in the show; to give the characters permission to take a military action to protect Star Voyagers in desperate times) which Monica overhears and becomes concerned visiting David he fears Felix may be becoming unbalanced.
Disillusioned and losing touch with reality, Felix stalks his former crew and drugs then kidnaps them one at a time and takes them to their old clubhouse that he and his friends used for role-playing, which Felix had kept up and imprisons them there with videos of Star Voyagers to break them free of their delusions, and will allow them to come back to the fleet as they are needed there. Meanwhile Felix kidnaps Sophia. Monica and David break into Felix’s Command Center and soon finds evidence of Felix’s stalking and crimes and realizes his obsession and that Felix is going crazy. When Felix appears with Sophia David and Monica confront him and tell him that his obsession has to end and that he needs to stop. When he starts scolding them for interfering with their mission and endangering the crew and breaking into the command center Monica finally had enough of Felix constantly doing Star Voyagers tells him the he is not a space captain and informs him of how he wasted his life giving him a long overdue reality check, David intends to turn Felix over to the police and finally get him professional help but Felix knocks him out Monica tells him to stop and he does not kill him but holds her hostage in the club house with the others forcing them to watch Star Voyagers to understand it better.
Scott and Genie call the police, the cops investigating learn that Monica helped him find a job, but he would leave late, come home early and not show up just to role play Star Voyagers. Felix contact them explaining his motives and gives them the ultimatum of canceling the movie, Bernie and the others escape and call the cops who drive them back, meanwhile Scott and Genie run into Felix as Richard announces the films cancelation and cops and security chase him to the roof where he bards them out, and pulls a gun on the public and in the confrontation Felix tries to justify his actions and Richard tells him that he is not a fan if he is obsessed, Felix begins to realize this but when his hostages arrive Bernie telling Richard and the others they can finish the movie Felix declares it as an act of treason and begins shooting, only for police to break onto the roof and shoot him dead, the cops find the evidence of Felix’s obsession and crimes in his basement and clubhouse including the poster Richard had signed, Monica even tells them of how Felix’s obsession consumed his life, revealing with the officers how Star Voyagers effected his personal life, and he barely got by in school but got good grades.
The film of Star Voyagers is finally made and is a success sequels and spin-offs are made with a new character based on Felix, and David and Monica marry, while a few movies based on the life and crimes of Felix (some fictionalized, others based on the events in the film) are now in production.
