A Black Englishman and his White Texas wife open a performing arts studio for teens in Harmony, Texas in 2004. Far from harmonious, this dynamic couple overcomes racial and cultural differences to not only deliver a performance of a lifetime, but change the course of a town.
SYNOPSIS:
After a business failure in Chicago, Desmond Howard, Black Englishman and his wife, Karis move to her hometown of Harmony, Texas to open a performing arts studio for teens. Living on Karis' parents farm and living/working in a barn/studio, the couple recruit talented kids to their studio. If that weren't difficult enough, the major competition in town is Lucy Dunn, Karis' high school rival, who also happens to date Karis' old boyfriend, Billy "The Kid" Payne. Lucy connives in every way to derail their studio, including stealing their performance venue and date.
A performing group assembled - Jacob, Nate, Callie, Jerra, RayJean, Molly, Chuckie and Danitha, but far from a cohensive team, the trainings and rehearsals begin. Stormy relationships occur with the teens, but Desmond and Karis are able to keep it from erupting. Speaking of erupting, Desmond and Billy square off when The Kid puts his hands on Karis. Desmond best Billy, thanks to his Liverpool boxing lessons.
It takes a tragedy to bring the group together. A tornado strikes Harmony causing damage and death. The disaster brings the kids together, along with a new performance venue and mission to heal this town. The group delivers a show of a lifetime changes the trajectory of the teens, the couple and the town.
