RESTLESS PEAK

RESTLESS PEAK
By Robin Johnston

GENRE: Western, Horror
LOGLINE:

Driven into the frozen mountains by a relentless posse, a native outlaw and the sheriff hunting him must form an uneasy alliance to survive the ancient evil rising beneath Restless Peak.

SYNOPSIS:

In the brutal aftermath of the Indian Wars in the American West, a Native outlaw known as Swan lives on the run with his brother, endlessly hunted by the law, haunted by war, and carrying a past he refuses to bury.

When the ruthless posse hunting them wounds his brother and pursues them both deep into the frozen mountains, Swan’s desperate flight leads him to the edge of a place whispered only in fear:

Restless Peak, an ancient mining town, abandoned by its residents very suddenly a hundred years before.

Eventually Swan is cornered by Sheriff Hale, a hardened veteran sent to bring him in dead or alive. But before either man can finish what they started, Swan's brother is abducted by something far worse than the posse.

The abandoned mining settlement, half-swallowed by snow, marks the mouth of an old shaft where men once dug too deep, and unearthed something that should never have been disturbed. As night falls and an unnatural snow storm rolls over the mountain, the ground begins to move.

Warped 'creatures' rise from the depths and start to pick off members of Hale's terrified posse. Dozens of them, bloody, skeletal, frozen, clawing their way up through the snow.

Trapped between the storm and the rising horror beneath their feet, Swan and the Sheriff are forced into an uneasy alliance. The other men try to defend themselves but vanish one by one, dragged screaming into the frozen mountain, and the ghastly mine-shaft.

But the terror of Restless Peak is not mindless. It remembers. It feeds on violence, on guilt, on the sins buried with the past.

Swan begins to realize that whatever lies beneath the mine is not just rising, it is calling.

To something else. Something far worse, buried beneath the mountains themselves.

As the storm closes in and the cursed town claims the living and the dead alike, Swan and the Sheriff must descend into the heart of the mine to confront the source of the evil, before it consumes them both and spreads beyond Restless Peak.

Some things should stay buried.
