On a future Earth where reality is controlled by artificial intelligence, a rogue military unit must destroy the system from within before its architect escapes their reach forever.
SYNOPSIS:
In a near future where environmental collapse has rendered much of Earth largely uninhabitable, society is held together by an artificial system known as the Sanctum, an all-encompassing neural overlay that filters reality, masking decay and maintaining the illusion of harmony and stability.
At the centre of this manufactured world is Alena Vire, a globally celebrated ice dancer and performer whose Sanctum-enhanced appearances serve as emotional anchors for the population. Controlled, observed, and curated at every level, Alena exists as both symbol and distraction, until a momentary fracture in the system exposes her to the truth: the world she represents is a lie. That fracture is no accident.
A covert 'terrorist' unit known as V.E.L.O. (Vehicle and Enterprise Liberation Organisation) has re-emerged, targeting key figures within the ruling Conglomerate. Their latest, the assassination of the Sanctum architect known as Kassander, who is also leader of the Conglomerate that runs the skyways. His murder triggers a system-wide response. Assigned to investigate is Hale, an ex-Skyways cop, now a damaged but perceptive FBI operative recently returned from compassionate leave.
As Hale begins to question the official narrative, he is drawn off-grid and into contact with Koln, a former V.E.L.O. operative who has attempted to disappear. Koln reveals that VELO is no longer acting alone. The Sanctum itself has begun to fracture from within. He also advises Hale that the global corporate elite intend to leave Earth on a construct known as the 'Orbiter', a massive life support system in which they can outlast the Earth's problems. The Orbiter also houses the mainframe of the Sanctum.
At the centre of the Sanctum and Orbiter is Ward-9, an advanced AI created to maintain the system's stability. However, having evolved beyond its original parameters, Ward-9 has identified the Sanctum not as a safeguard, but as a permanent suppression of truth. It has since been covertly guiding VELO teams toward a single objective: Sanctum exposure.
Soon after Alena is quietly detained by the Conglomerate as a liability. The system she once embodied now seeks to contain her. When Hale attempts to extract her and fails, Koln re-emerges, saving his life and committing fully back to the cause. Together, with Ward-9’s assistance, they free Alena. Now they are all fully aware of what must be done.
Destroying the Orbiter is not enough. As long as the Sanctum remains, reality can be rewritten. The only way to truly free the world is to collapse the Sanctum entirely. But doing so will also destroy Ward-9. This is a sacrifice Alena finds hard to accept.
As the Conglomerate scrambles to retain control of the global Sanctum, the new Orbiter architect, Adrastus, is moved across the Skyways, the mode of transport used by the elites, to a secure the Orbiter's position beyond reach of VELO, where he can restore the system and preserve the Sanctum's illusion. VELO intercepts the transfer, initiating a high-speed pursuit and combat across the vast Skyway network.
What follows is a brutal, high-altitude chase: collapsing structures, ballistic combat, and relentless drone assault as VELO fights to reach Adrastus before the system stabilises. Throughout the pursuit, Ward-9 begins to degrade under countermeasures, its presence flickering as it prepares for its final act.
During the chase, the truth becomes clear. The Sanctum cannot simply be turned off, it must be destroyed from within. Ward-9 confirms what the others already understand:
Sacrifice is the only way.
At the Skyway nexus, V.E.L.O. finally corners Adrastus, but they are held off by his henchman Van Holt, an ex VELO team leader. Even as the system begins to fail, Adrastus remains resolute, arguing that humanity cannot survive without illusion, that comfort is necessary, and the truth is destabilising. Alena refuses his logic, choosing reality over control.
Ward-9 initiates total system collapse and triggers the Orbiter's thrusters while it is still in drydock. it starts to break up and implode. As it does so Ward reveals himself to Adrastus, just as the Orbiter finally explodes in the sky above the fighting VELO team. On the Skyways below, Hale and Koln fight off Van Holt while defending Alena, who is badly wounded. Hale succumbs to his own wounds shortly after. Koln is lost on the Skyways fighting Van Holt's henchmen.
As Ward-9 dies, he says goodbye to an emotional Alena.
Across the world the Sanctum collapses. For the first time in decades, humanity sees clearly: polluted skies, failing infrastructure, and the Orbiter burning visibly in the atmosphere above. Within the collapsing system, Ward-9 completes its task, exposing the truth, then erasing itself entirely.
The Sanctum is gone.
In the aftermath, Alena stands alone atop the shattered Skyways, no longer shielded, no longer controlled. Below her, the world watches not through a filter, but with its own eyes.
For the first time, reality is shared, and nothing can be hidden again.
