After losing their jobs, a married couple illegally adopts a preteen orphan to pose as their daughter in order to get work, only to end up embroiled in a kidnapping scheme with the girl's birth mother and a shady social worker.

SYNOPSIS:

Riley and Paige Welphelt, once successful TV producers, find themselves struggling to get work in Hollywood. Desperate for a job with network executive Jerry, they devise a scheme to foster a child named Missy to appear more family-oriented. Their plan seems to work initially, but complications arise when Missy's supposed birth mother Arlene appears. It's revealed that Missy is actually part of a scam with Arlene and Charlie (a family law facilitator) to extort money from the Welphelts. However, Missy genuinely bonds with Paige and Riley, and ultimately helps expose Arlene and Charlie's scheme by stealing back the extorted money. The story also explores Riley and Paige's marital struggles after discovering past infidelities, but they ultimately reconcile and legally adopt Missy along with two other foster children, creating a real family. The screenplay ends with them turning down an exploitative reality show offer, choosing to maintain their integrity in the entertainment industry.
