By James Earl

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE: A lineage test creates a rift in a blissful interracial marriage when it reveals the white husband's ancestors owned his black husband's forbears.

SYNOPSIS:

Grant and Naja's romance began sophomore year at USC, blossoming into a connection that triumphed over initial hesitations about commitment. Years after their graduation, the couple said "I do," ready to embark on a new chapter together. Their marital bliss, however, takes an unexpected turn when Grant's mother, amidst her deteriorating health, requests to undergo a lineage test. Moved by his mother's plea, Grant helps her submit. The results shock both Grant and his mother as they stumble on an unsettling family tree connecting them to one of the cruelest slave plantations in American history, notorious not only for its barbaric treatment of slaves but also for using their remains in ghastly ways, such as producing wagon wheel oil. This plantation's legacy is so dark, it's recognized as the most haunted in the nation, echoing with grim tales that still resonate through history. What makes this grim revelation even darker is that Naja’s ancestral journey begins at the very same plantation. Overwhelmed by fear, and at the insistence of his distraught mother, Grant contemplates concealing this dark truth from Naja. However, his commitment to being honest with the love of his life compels him to share the revelation. While at first, being fine, this revelation drives a wedge between them, as Naja does research and discovers more of the haunting reality. This leaves them to navigate the murky waters of a past they both can’t realistically reconcile. As they struggle to come to terms, even their most tender moments are eclipsed by this legacy. But their enduring love for each other and determination to overcome prompts them to confront the issue head-on.
