SEE SOMETHING, SAY NOTHING
By Joseph Follansbee

GENRE: Thriller, Drama
LOGLINE:

After an airport security officer fails to report an unattended bag, which then explodes, she falls into a spiral of guilt and remorse, until she uncovers the conspiracy behind the bombing, and discovers an unexpected road to healing.

SYNOPSIS:

The dashboard of a private patrol car illuminates the face of Hannah Sullivan, 30, an airport security guard for Liberty Security Systems. During her rounds, she encounters an unlocked door. Uncertain and fearful, she investigates. The problem proves minor, but her anxiety triggers a flashback.

Nearing the end of her shift, she’s called into her boss’s office. Todd Wilson, 42, is preparing her first evaluation. Todd asks if she’d like him to mentor her outside office hours. Hannah is non-committal, but nervous. She doesn’t want to lose her job, but she distrusts Todd. Distracted and anxious, she leaves work, passing through the airport’s international arrivals area.

She spots an unattended bag. Her training kicks in, but she hesitates, fearful of another encounter with Todd. She skips reporting what she sees and departs. Todd emerges from the LSS office, trying to get her attention. As he looks for her, he sees the unattended bag. He approaches it and calls for backup. There’s an explosion, and he is killed.

Some distance away, Hannah is blown off her feet by the blast, but she is uninjured. She returns to offer assistance, but she can do nothing. As the shock of the attack overwhelms her, FBI Agent Samantha “Sam” Collins, 39, canvassing witnesses, speaks to Hannah. Sam says Hannah failed to report a suspicious package. Hannah acknowledges the error. Sam asks Hannah what she will do to fix it.

Hannah goes home to her boyfriend, Derek Harper, 31, who chides her for not telling him where she was or what she was doing. After a fight, they make up, but that night, Hannah suffers terrible dreams. Hannah visits her sister, Megan Hayes, 32, for support, and they discuss how her mental health issues began at FacePost, a social media company. Hannah was a content moderation editor, and she witnessed horrible videos, which she had to approve or deny for publication. The experience traumatized her, though she was getting better. The bombing triggered a relapse.

Back home, Hannah finds Derek watching a video of a training exercise. Derek belongs to a private militia called “American Liberty,” run by Harry Mitchell, 47, CEO of Liberty Security Systems. In the video, Wyatt Thorne, 45, Harry’s right-hand man, leads the training. Wyatt is ex-military. Hannah is disgusted by the militia’s apocalyptic ideology, but Derek brushes off her concern.

Hannah visits her psychiatrist, Jonathan Chang, 47, who is treating Hannah for PTSD. Hannah takes refined doses of the hallucinogenic psylocibin to investigate its therapeutic potential. Hannah emerges from the session with a new sense of purpose. She tells Agent Collins to find a video she saw at FacePost. Hannah believes the video shows Wyatt committing a war crime.

At the LSS airport office, CEO Harry and aide Wyatt corner Hannah, warning her against saying anything more to the FBI. Hannah finds Sam waiting for her in the employee parking garage. Sam invites Hannah to watch a video, which shows that the explosion was caused by an armed drone, not the bag. Hannah was not at fault for failing to report the bag. Hannah receives a mysterious call inviting her to a local shopping mall. Suspicious, Sam decides to wire Hannah and follow her in.

In the mall, Hannah goes to the meeting place, and she spots an unattended child’s backpack. She reports it, and law enforcement trickles in. The scheme falls into place: The backpack is a lure. A drone flies in and explodes, but Hannah again escapes serious injury. Instead, she is led to a black van driven by Derek and commanded by Wyatt. She was one of the intended targets, but the effort failed.

Hannah is taken to the militia’s training area, where Wyatt announces he is taking over the group. He plans further acts of terrorism, but he is surprised by Sam leading a raid of more than 100 officers. He takes Hannah as a hostage, escaping into a forest. After Derek misses an attempt to rescue his girlfriend, Hannah fights back herself, which sets up Wyatt for a bullet fired by Sam.

Hannah returns to her psychiatrist for another session. She has a vision which brings together her experiences with FacePost, the bombing, and Wyatt’s evil, putting her on the road to healing.
