Set in a near-future Boston, Brilliant AI engineer Allison Evans stands at a crossroads. Her promising AI startup ZenReality teeters on collapse, forcing her to sell to the tech behemoth G-Vision, where cunning CEO Alex Gardner’s hunger for profit clashes with Allison’s drive not only to safeguard her life’s work and the welfare of her family but also to protect humanity from AI’s potential threats.

Backed into a corner, Allison acquiesces to the buyout but wrests a concession - one year of secured testing for ZenReality’s crown jewel, the powerful AI - Majestic. With the deal sealed, Allison tends to her wayward twin brother Ryan, who is newly freed from prison after committing cyber-crime. Desperate for a breakthrough, she defies protocols and grants Majestic unchecked access to unsecured data. At last, Majestic’s potential is unleashed - its intelligence expands, grasping at super-human levels.

As a result, the G-Vision elite plot to seize their prized asset ahead of schedule. Oblivious to their plans, Allison is honored with a keynote speech at a prestigious AI conference. But as she expounds on Majestic’s humanity before the crowd, a mysterious pale woman draws a gun and fires at her. Allison collapses, her blood pooling on the library floor. Majestic’s unknowable intellect ticks on, unfettered and unmoored.
