In Oranje, white citizens are stripped of dignity, treated as sub-humans under the rule of the powerful Sello and his ruthless wife Jessie, whose iron-fisted authority mirrors the apartheid era’s worst excesses. Through Lisette’s eyes, we see a society poisoned by revenge, fear and entitlement — a chilling reflection of how absolute power corrupts absolutely. As tensions rise, forbidden sympathies emerge, alliances fracture, and the line between victim and villain blurs. When a public uprising ignites, Lisette becomes the unlikely spark in a revolution that forces the nation to confront its cyclical hatred and its need for redemption. Subjugate flips the racial paradigm to reveal the shared fragility of humanity and the futility of vengeance — a provocative, emotionally charged exploration of power, guilt, and identity.
