I need a breakthrough. I want to direct my first feature but I can't seem to break into the industry over here in NI. Is there a way to put your name in the ring for other directing people's work? What have y'all tried to get that first feature?

Expand postHello, Stage 32 friends, family, strangers, and Aliens pretending to be humans,
My name is David Blaustein. Introducing myself here is my new favorite tradition. Following my initial introduction last month, I’ve connected with a few dozen people, made friends, read an excellent pilot, gave constructive feedback, received constructive feedback, read several outstanding pieces, and hopefully inspired a few people.
Let’s face it; we’re all dreamers. I’ve lived enough to know that humanity is at its best when it’s communal. Having an accessible and supportive community of writers and filmmakers, from novice to expert, is a gift for all of us. Stage 32 is a f’n revelation.
A little bit about myself: I was an Entertainment Correspondent and Movie Critic for ABC News Radio. I co-wrote a TV Pilot last year that I’m just starting to pitch. I’m on the second draft of a historically significant story that’s never been told before and about to finish the first draft of an endearing comedy that takes place in 1986 and is inspired by a class I took in Junior High School but has virtually nothing to do with the class I took in Junior High School. My next script is a sci-fi/thriller about a 14-year-old girl who accidentally finds a way to communicate with her dead father, followed by a horror story based on actual events, followed by a pilot that will be pitched as a reimagining of a classic sitcom.
I highly recommend taking advantage of the Pitch Sessions. Holy Hell! I’ve done five. My first included a technical glitch (my bad), but it turned out great. No, he didn’t want my script, and that’s perfectly okay. The scorecard and feedback immediately helped me reshape my pitch. Now, I have NO IDEA if I will get a script request, but three of the four following pitches (this past week) were terrific, and I built on each experience. If you’ve been afraid to commit to a pitch, please DO IT. Get out of your comfort zone. This is a great way to hone your pitching skills, quite possibly the best way.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you want to talk shop.
Kind regards,
David

When the time came to pivot ( a loud "Pivot!" a la FRIENDS), I dove into the industry with zero background. Dreams of writing a screenplay danced in my head, so I started reading the screenplays of my favorite movies trying to teach myself Screenwriting 101.
Realizing I enjoyed reading, I enrolled in Hollywood Gatekeepers and learned how to write coverage. A few months later, I started reading for the Austin Film Festival. Reading for the Stage 32 OWA group quickly followed. I aspire to read for producers and directors, but I am happy to provide help to those in need. And maybe write that pesky screenplay myself someday.
Pleasure to meet y'all.
Rick
Nice to meet you, Rick! You are a generous spirit, and it sounds like you have a lot of great stories to tell. Write them :)
Great to meet you, Rick Mendelssohn. You were an ER physician, and now you're a script physician.

Have you considered hopping on a Career Development Call with an executive of your chosing through Stage 32? It could provide you with some valuable insights into reading for those big-name producers: https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/coverage/buy?id=6

In that time, I’ve worked on documentaries, music videos, corporates and commercials including short film and feature. I’ve collaborated with the likes of Netflix, Disney, HBO, BBC, NatGeo and many others. In the last year or so I realised I wanted to focus mainly on writing and directing. I have several outlines written for features and tv shows and just need some help! I’m looking for a like-minded, hungry producer, possibly even a driven writing partner to help me move forward with these projects.

Also, what do you do in the industry? Direct movies? If so, you could mention that in your bio and mention why you became a director.
got it thanks!

Have never used ChatGPT but surprisingly this agreement seems very reasonable! However as others have said, I know the SEC rules in the US are very stringent so I think I'd take advice. If it all goes wrong, can you sue ChatGPT??!!

To Dori & Geoff, please scroll to the bottom of the generated boiler plate agreement and read the "Please Note" section.
Fair point John, but with such caveats, the document is surely of little value other than information?
