SYNOPSIS:

Ace Leboeuf and Jimmy Sparks, (a Native Hawaiian) two twenty-something buskers in Hawaii, barely scrape by working the touristy areas of Hawaii, though they aspire to be ninjas. After busking one day they stop at a convenience store and witness a robbery taking place. The owner of the store, Master Woh, defeats the robbers with a flurry of martial arts moves. Ace and Jimmy ask to be Master Woh's disciples but he says he recently closed his dojo. He recommends his twin brother, Master Kalani, who runs a head shop named Purple Haze. Two police officers, Officer Smith, and his lady cop partner, Officer Jane Chen, arrive and interview Ace, Jimmy, and Master Woh. Ace is smitten by Jane, and he asks her out but she says she'll have to think about it. Later, after having their usual sushi bar meal, Ace is once again talking about the lucky golf ball he carries around with him, saying that he carries it around because he got his nickname, 'Ace' from a hole in one he shot when he was twelve, playing with his admiral father on a Pearl Harbor course. On the way back to Ace's car, Ace loses his grip on the ball and it bounces down the street, off a car, and through the mail slot of the Purple Haze head shop. The shop appears to be closed but a neon light blinks on and the door is unlocked so they go inside. Suddenly a light over a counter comes on and Master Kalani is there, holding Ace's golf ball. He returns the ball to Ace and they talk about Master Woh having recommended Master Kalani to teach them martial arts. Master Kalani says he will take them on as his students, as long as they have the money to pay him. In the following days, Ace and Jimmy realize they need a place to live, and that Ace will need to ask his rich admiral father for another $5,000 loan. Ace and Jimmy have a successful day busking. A teenage guy asks if Ace and Jimmy want to buy some weed. Ace is opposed because he wants to save money to go to Paris, but Jimmy says yes. The guy leads them to an apartment house and they are robbed of their busking cash and instruments. As they come from the building, Master Kalani pulls up in a red convertible sports car and they have a high speed chase around Honolulu. The robbers crash their car and make a run for it, but Master Kalani swings and bounces through a bamboo grove and off walls, and a knocks out the robbers, recovering Ace and Jimmy's money and instruments. Ace and Jimmy have dinner at Jimmy's Auntie Lee's house and she says they can rent from her, but Ace says he has already arranged to see a nice condo apartment rented by a sexy Russian lady named Natasha. They love the apartment, which is on the second floor above Natasha's place. At a sushi bar Ace and Jimmy read about the local theft of a famous Cartier 400 carat diamond and a reward of $50,000 being offered. Jimmy is suspicious of Natasha and picks the lock to her place and Ace and Jimmy search for criminal evidence. While they are in Natasha's place Natasha and her boyfriend and accomplice, Boris, return and begin making out and drinking vodka. They have stolen the diamond and discuss how they will smuggle it back to Russia. The pair go to the bedroom and Ace and Jimmy hide in a bathroom closet. While Boris and Natasha are in the shower, Ace and Jimmy see a mysterious note with a locker combination by Boris' clothes, and they steal it and return to their apartment. Meanwhile, Ace and Jimmy take martial arts lessons from Master Kalani and improve their skills. Ace and Jimmy go golfing to sort out what they should do. They make a golfing bet and Jimmy wins. Ace has dinner with his father and his father's fiancee, who is about Ace's age. Ace and his father get in an argument and his father says Ace is a loser and not welcome to attend his wedding. After the brawl, Officer Smith and Officer Chen arrive and interview Ace's dad and Ace. Ace says his dad threw the first punch but he won't press charges. Ace asks Officer Chen out and she writes her number on his palm. Ace and Officer Chen (Jane) go on a date and they hit it off. Ace shows Jane the note he stole from Boris and she advises him to to destroy it and quit trying to be a cop. A few days later, while Ace naps, Jimmy enters Natasha's apartment and installs surveillance equipment his uncle gave him. Natasha and Boris, realizing Ace and Jimmy are on to them, kidnap them and drive them in their van to a private dock, and out to sea in a fishing boat to kill them. Ace and Jimmy cut the tape binding their wrists and ankles and use their martial arts skills to subdue Boris and Natasha. Officer (Jane) Chen, who expected Ace to meet up with her, tells Ace she knew they were in trouble when she went to their apartment and saw their instruments lying outside by the street. Ace and Jimmy, soon to be flush with the reward money, make plans to go to Paris. Ace asks Jane to come along and she says yes.
