About Graham

My Semi-Poetic Schpeil

The deepest and most consistent love in my life has been cinema. My earliest memory is being parked in front of the tube as an infant, watching my first movie, The Wizard of Oz. Although I didn’t have language or concepts, it spoke to me. My consciousness exploded into being as I was whisked away to a place that was strange yet somehow familiar. There was a profound mystery at the center of that film that I was intensely drawn to. Ever since I heard the siren call of Lady Cinema that day, I have walked a circuitous path in pursuit of that mystery with no compass or roadmap other than the ones written in the stars.

Biographical Snippet

Graham Lee grew up in a whirlpool of Northern California countercultures. His childhood was spent backstage at Grateful Dead concerts, in clown camps, and roaming the eclectic streets of Santa Cruz. Being the perpetual new kid on the block, Graham found his home in his imagination, approaching the world like an astronaut exploring a new planet and interpreting it through the lens of his camera.

“I truly believe Graham Lee was born to make film,” said David Moessinger, executive producer of Walker, Texas Ranger.

“With him, it’s a compulsion. If he were locked in solitary confinement and given a camera, he’d do an epic about cockroaches.”

Lee wrote and directed an ultra-low-budget feature indie feature, All Roads Lead to Occidental, which premiered at the Sacramento International Film Festival in 2014. His short film Reflections was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Playhouse West Film Festival. Three of his short films, Vengeance is a Laugh (2012), Whitmore (2012), and Counterpart (2013), were winners at the MMTB Director’s Challenge. In addition, Graham has worked as a screenwriter for Standing Bear Productions, where he collaborated with Afghan author Hamid Naweed on adapting his short story, Let’s Walk Together, into a feature-length war drama.
