THE LAST SINGLE MAN
By Marc Serhan

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

In a quaint town where declaring a soulmate past a certain age is tradition, a rebellious bookseller risks ostracism to uphold his singlehood—until a determined documentarian challenges his fears of commitment.

SYNOPSIS:

In the charming town of Blytheville, known for its bi-annual Soulmate Festivals where residents publicly declare their chosen partners, Charlie Becker stands apart. The solitary bookstore owner’s refusal to comply has made him the focus of gossip and speculation as the town’s last single man.

Ashley Ward, an out-of-town journalist, arrives to document the Summer edition of the Festival and becomes intrigued by Charlie’s enigmatic resistance to the tradition. Though he initially refuses her interview request, Charlie eventually agrees. He introduces her to off-the-tourist-map landmarks, sharing his reasons for staying celibate along the way. Their candid conversations evolve into an unexpected bond, challenging them both to confront their feelings.

When a leaked draft of Ashley’s documentary portrays Blytheville in an unflattering light, controversy erupts. Mayor Eli Turner pressures Charlie to declare a soulmate at the Winter Festival or face ostracism. Ashley, struggling with her growing feelings for Charlie, returns to the city to finalize the documentary, which ultimately earns the town’s acclaim for its heartfelt portrayal.

At the Winter Festival, all eyes are on Charlie, fearing he will reject the tradition once again. As he steps onto the stage, a tense silence falls over the crowd. Just as he is about to speak, Ashley boldly calls his name from the audience and declares him her soulmate. Cheers erupt, restoring the celebrative spirit to the festival. A group of townsfolk lift Ashley and carry her to the stage, where Charlie extends his hand to help her join him, beaming with happiness.
