After Senshi Asuka moves into town, she and her new friends must navigate through the strange new challenges that lie before them.
SYNOPSIS:
-In 1986, supernatural objects known as ‘Soul Eyes’, called that due to their resemblance to eyeballs, began to unexplainably pop up around the world, granting powers to whomever came into contact with them.
-Intervals of calamity and peace followed over the next thirty years, from new laws being made to a world war that took up the entire second half of the nineties, to society trying to restructure itself ever since.
-Now in 2019, Senshi Asuka, a Japanese-American teenager, moves into an orphanage in Baltimore County, Maryland. She’s a kind and friendly girl who’s a bit naive, but she also has a strong character and isn’t one to be pushed around.
-While settling into her new home, Asuka befriends Andy Sumner, a detached and irritable fella her age, getting off to a rough start when meeting him.
-Together, they attend their local high school, which doesn’t live up to the expectations Asuka had, as she’s never been to public school before and thought it’d be like what she sees on TV.
-She does, however, encounter several strange people : Maria Vasquez, a shy girl who’s prone to getting bullied; Jim Verlaine, a punk rocker from Downtown; Quincy Douglass, Jim’s constantly angry rival; and Nina Wolfe, the school’s resident weirdo who seems to have something of a past with Andy.
-After largely failing to make any friends on her first day, Asuka becomes discouraged, until Jim invites her to a punk rock concert that night, though he only did so to spite his friends who were teasing him over having no one to go with.
-Once she and Andy attend, the venue gets busted by rogue police officers who tracked down two Evolvers to this place. ‘Evolver’ is the name given to those who’ve gained a power, or an ‘Ace’, from a Soul Eye.
-During the struggle, both Jim and Andy are incapacitated. Falsely accused and about to get captured, Asuka lies in peril before a Soul Eye suddenly rolls into her palm, granting her an Ace that allows her to control wind.
-With it, she makes quick work of her attackers before both Jim and Andy wake up, revealing themselves to be Evolvers in hiding before they escape.
-From here, Asuka has to learn how to both control her Ace and keep it a secret from everyone else, with Andy swearing to help her through the process, all while navigating the trials of high school life, a new environment, and a mysterious serial killer known as The Thin Man stalking the night.
