SYNOPSIS:

PRINCE OF THE WOODS is a nine-hour historical adventure epic (a limited series). Set in England in the High Middle Ages—the verdant, lyrical, resplendent medieval world of our childhood imaginations—this sweeping narrative tells the story of four entangled lives, some historical, some fictional, all belovedly familiar.

Prince of the Woods tells the story of the historical Prince John thrown into the mythical green world of Maid Marian, Little John, and Robin Hood outside Nottingham between 1184 and 1201. The series proceeds in three parts: three encounters between the prince and the famous outlaws—young and unformed at the start—shape these characters’ lives and loves and illuminate the nature of identity, memory, and power.

In Part I, a deadly accident brings a young, reckless, and wounded Prince John unrecognized into the youthful company of Robin Hood’s closest companions, where he must decide who he truly is—and loves—before he brings ruin upon them all. Then, in Part II, with the exiled prince returned to Nottingham and the traitorous sheriff on the hunt, Marian, John, and Robin must protect the prince as the castle—and their own hearts—come under siege. In Part III, desperate for Robin Hood’s help in defeating a band of vigilantes and haunted by his love for Marian, the newly-crowned King John takes her captive, threatening to undermine his own power and the peace of Nottingham as battle looms. In the end, his battle won, the broken King John parts ways with the beloved outlaws, ever changed by them.

With emotional depth and cinematic scope, this thoroughgoing adventure rises out of the grim bleakness of many modern medieval stories, bringing the vibrancy, wit, romance, and high drama of older stories to a fresh new tale.
