LOGLINE:

When George’s wife tragically passes away during the birth of their third child, he is left to navigate the daunting journey of grief while raising two young children.

SYNOPSIS:

George Foster is a devoted husband to his lively and easygoing wife, Maggie. Together, they share a blissful life with their two young boys, Michael (6) and Jake (2). However, their idyllic existence takes a heartbreaking turn when Maggie passes away during the birth of their third child, a baby girl. George's

world crumbles with grief, prompting his parents to step in and support the care of the three children. Lost in his sorrow, George withdraws, merely coasting through life. Recognizing the need for change, George's parents encourage him to embark on a journey of self-discovery, urging him to face life's challenges and redefine his role for the sake of his children, forging ahead without Maggie.

Normal life begins to unfold for George and the kids when Michael goes back to school for the first time since losing his mother. Embracing roles once held by his wife, George becomes part of the neighborhood "mom's club." His main ally is a proactive mom and neighbor across the street, stepping in whenever a nudge in the right direction is needed. With the holidays looming, George decides to escape the town brimming with memories and revisit his youth. As the holidays approach, George decides it’s best to get out of the town filled with memories of his wife and go somewhere from his youth, before he met Maggie. He meets his family - parents, two younger sisters, an older brother and his family at their grandparent’s lake house where George and his brother Bobby spent summers as children. While there, he has a chance encounter with a childhood crush, Desi, who is entwined in the small town. Juggling time with his family, his children, and the escape that Desi brings, things escalate for Michael as he can feel his father pull away and this new person interfering with his life. Sensing that he’s not paying enough attention to the people around him, George takes his kids to his favorite diner where they have another run-in with Desi in which Michael reacts poorly.

Coming to grips with the reality of his life, George goes to the local bar owned by Desi’s parents with his sisters and almost immediately sits at the bar with Desi alone as she works. After closing, George and Desi talk about their past - George focusing on all the positives of his relationship with Maggie in a personal nostalgia kind of way. Christmas day finally arrives the next day, and Desi pops in to say hello and give George a picture from when they were young. Michael is offended by her presence and storms off to his bedroom, where Sam, Michael’s grandfather, talks to him about why he’s upset. Michael confesses that he’s worried his father is going to replace his mother with a new person, and Sam assures him that no one will replace her and that it’s okay to miss his mom. The next morning, George takes Michael to the pier for sunrise where he proposed to Maggie, and they final name the baby Abigail Hannah together putting closure to a moment that George was holding on to. The story ends with George deciding to stay in the town that feels both comfortable and sentimental instead of going back to the home he had with Maggie and continually reliving the heartache.
