SYNOPSIS:

When four ambitious film students head into rural Montana to document the abuse of Great Pyrenees dogs by local ranchers, they expect a semester project that blends activism and art. Instead, they stumble into a violent feud with a brutal rancher and unearth chilling whispers of the Shunka Warak’in, a cryptid born of Native/Pioneer folklore and blood-soaked history.

As their cameras capture increasingly disturbing evidence, the crew’s mission unravels into chaos: stolen spark plugs, firebombed vehicles, and a siege that leaves them stranded in the wilderness. Forced to rely on a the very dogs they came to document and a cache of military weapons hidden by a reclusive veteran, the students must evolve from documentarians into reluctant warriors.

Each night brings new attacks, and each close call exposes fractures within the group, ambition versus survival, loyalty versus fear. By the time the Warak’in descends in full force, the crew’s fight is no longer about finishing their film but escaping alive. What began as a PSA ends as a battlefield legend.

Blending grounded folklore with sharp ensemble banter and unflinching horror, Beast of the Rockies is The Ritual meets The Faculty — a creature-feature with a cause.

Beast of the Rockies blends the survival horror of The Descent, the ensemble chaos of Predator, and the genre-savvy dark humor of The Cabin in the Woods. With the cultural grit of Wind River and a dash of Tucker & Dale vs Evil irreverence, it's a creature-feature with claws, conscience, and Gen Z bite.

Collaboration welcome.

MSG NATION — OOH-RAH!

BEAST OF THE ROCKIES sounds unique and thrilling, Donovan Cage!

I think you’re close to a solid logline. It could be tightened up some. Here’s a logline suggestion: When a group of cocky film students travels to rural Montana to expose the abuse of abandoned Great Pyrenees dogs, they fight to survive against a local legend—a real, flesh-ripping cryptid known as The Beast of the Rockies.

Also, you said, "Beast of the Rockies blends the survival horror of The Descent, the ensemble chaos of Predator, and the genre-savvy dark humor of The Cabin in the Woods." I suggest changing the genres you put in the Genres section from "Comedy Thriller" to "Horror Comedy."

Donovan Cage

Great suggestion, Maurice! I incorporated your feedback into a new logline and changed the genre to Horror Comedy. Thank you!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, @Donovan. Looking forward to seeing this!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARINES!

250 years ago, in Tun Tavern, Philadelphia - the City of Brotherly Love - a handful of the toughest, bravest souls this not-yet-official nation had to offer came together and gave birth to the United States Marine Corps.

Less than a year later, because of their grit, sacrifice, and sheer will, America officially became a nation.

To all my fellow Devil Dogs - past, present, and future - SEMPER FI. DO OR DIE… OOH-RAH!
