Amid growing political unrest in Russia, a gifted yet emotionally vulnerable actress and a withdrawn American director build an unspoken bond during rehearsals for Pride and Prejudice—a connection that deepens as their lives slowly begin to mirror the play’s rhythms of love, judgment, and unspoken longing.
SYNOPSIS:
Patrick Herrinson, a once-prominent American stage director, arrives in Russia to direct Pride and Prejudice in a crumbling theater, hoping to revive his artistic reputation without becoming emotionally involved. His precision and control define both his art and his relationships.
During auditions, he casts Inossensia—an untrained but intuitively brilliant young woman—as Elizabeth Bennet. Her raw presence unsettles him. As rehearsals unfold, an unspoken intimacy grows between them. Their connection is expressed not through grand gestures, but in glances, silences, and the cadence of shared scenes.
Gloria, an attractive and strategic actress, expected the lead role. Viewing Inossensia as a threat to both her ambitions and her access to producer Alexander, she begins to quietly undermine her. Patrick, for his part, remains emotionally guarded, even as the connection with Inossensia intensifies.
In a turning point during rehearsal, Inossensia delivers a line from the play with real-life pain:
“You judged me, while hiding behind your pride.”
After the confrontation, she withdraws. Patrick is left uncertain—aware that something between them existed, but perhaps too late to name it.
The final performance is never fully shown. Inossensia disappears, leaving behind only questions. The audience, like Patrick, is left in silence.
