CHRISTMAS KAROL
By Alistair McKenzie

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A simple songstress and a lonesome Samaritan come together over a lost purse and found future.

SYNOPSIS:

Karol Frost has a famous sister. It’s not a problem because Karol writes for and organizes her professional life. Unfortunately, she can’t keep eyes on everything. When Sam Goodman stumbles on a lost purse it’s an opening to a whole new world neither saw coming.

On the steps of a brownstone, in the halo of Christmas streetlights, he’s come to do the right thing. Unfortunately, a thief snatches the purse out of his hands before he can. A furious chase follows as Karol emerges just in time to see Sam running away. Misconception reigns supreme when she calls to chasten him.

The purse is gone for good, and Karol has a date to keep. Closing up shop and heading out, she accidentally bumps into Sam on his return from the police station. Fate intervenes when Karol’s music sheets fly in all directions. Frantically the two snatch them up before the December breeze wins the day. A “thank you” and “you’re welcome” later and it’s coffee for two. It would be kismet, except she doesn’t realize he’s the one she chastened. In a flash of hopeful weakness, he assumes an alter ego to protect this fragile moment. Alas, Karol meets Daniel.

Time gets away from them and Karol is late. She has to be at O’Kelly’s to try out her new song. At the cab door he invites himself and the longest non-date in history just got longer.

The performance implodes when Karol’s singer tumbles from a broken stool, cracking his head on the stage. He’s all right, but dazed. Karol begs off for paralyzing stage fright, but something in the air gets her back up there. Her trembling voice can’t hide her heart and the audience applauds. Unbeknownst to her, Sam recorded the whole thing and put it up on the web where more than two million views send it viral.

Her sister Karlye is furious. Singing is her thing. But, twins are twins and she’s almost understanding.

Day after tomorrow can’t come soon enough for either Karol or Sam and their next date is a thing of beauty. A bus ride, a chess match, a Christmas tree lighting and string trio in the park. Sam is smitten. So is Karol. So is Daniel.

Sam’s co-worker, Gordon, is Karlye’s biggest fan. When the police suddenly call to say they found the purse, Sam has a problem. How can he be him and Daniel? So, he convinces Gordon to return it for him. Meeting Karlye is just what Gordon can’t handle. He gushes and fawns and spills the beans in an uncontrollable adoration fest. Now, Sam’s in hot water.

With the cat out of the bag Karol confronts Daniel, uh, Sam at his office, ending things once and for all. Until, Gordon inserts himself into the equation.

The Frosts are having Christmas dinner and Gordon is invited. That’s all Sam needs. He finagles the address from his “best friend” and shows up unannounced to serenade the girl of his dreams, hoping to end this nightmare of mistaken identity.

It’s a sweet gesture, but Karol’s not convinced. With her mother, sister and slightly clueless father lovingly nudging her, she decides to take a chance.

In their snowy front yard on the cusp of Christmas Eve, Karol and Sam give each other the greatest present of all. Each other.
