Banished to the farthest corner of the Roman Empire, a bitter bureaucrat becomes the fulcrum that changes human history when he crucifies Christ, branding him an executioner of men, and liberator of mankind.
SYNOPSIS:
Pontios Pilate takes governorship in dysfunctional Palestine quite against his will. Political intrigue robbed him of his place in Rome, but not his ambition. Determined to make good and return to civilization as quickly as possible, he manipulates the local population, pitting sect against sect until he meets the followers of Jesus Christ.
Against the backdrop of a citywide celebration, Pontios maneuvers to control the unruly populace. If he can prove to Rome his administrative skill, his banishment to Jerusalem will be over before it’s begun.
In his zeal to contain his subjects, he critically acquiesces to the demand of the local Jewish leaders for Jesus’ head. The sudden death and subsequent resurrection of Christ impact him in ways he never imagined, setting him on a quest for truth.
His governorship a success, he is called back to Rome at the behest of his father in law, the emperor. It is a mixed blessing since he now can’t help but question everything he once believed.
Opposed by his captain of the guard and enemies in the highest places, Pontios rises against all odds and reason, until he is caught in the company of Christians and accused of sedition. In the climactic final scene, he and his wife choose faith over facility, changing them and humanity forever.
