THE KINGMAKER
By Alistair McKenzie

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

A young boy watches his honest father punished for his veracity and realizes the only way to right the wrong is to become the enemy.

SYNOPSIS:

An oppressive regime wields its heavy hands in the lives of its citizens, forcing acceptable behavior to cross the line into corruption. The son of the last honest cop in his neighborhood, Joseph Santos watches as his father is criticized, marginalized and threatened for refusing to play the game. A mistake Joseph will not repeat.

As a young man he joins the Worker’s Party, a radical revolutionary group vehemently opposed to the military government. They take up arms in a series of futile raids, forcing him to flee his country to an island nation. There, he surgically alters his appearance, making possible his covert return.

Wiser for his experience, he realizes that from the inside he can exert absolute power and pull strings to exact his revenge. His true talent is making impossible candidates the party’s choice. Beginning with a small, economically strategic town, he delivers political and financial gain where none was expected.

His ascent to the national political arena brings temptation, compromise, collapse and redemption. His sense of justice mortally devolved, he plies his trade with reasoned deceit. Just outside the spotlight, just behind the curtain, but always at the fulcrum of power.
