When a buried crime threatens to come to light, a woman who learned to disappear must finally speak, exposing how easily violence hides behind respectability.
SYNOPSIS:
From the outside, Lisa looks like a gifted, straight-A student with a promising future. But behind closed doors, her childhood is marked by silence and survival. At home, her mother’s relentless cruelty erodes her self-worth, while her stepfather’s indifference masks a darker betrayal. In the shadows of a neighbor’s darkroom, a trusted family friend grooms her with secrecy and shame. Even nights spent at a babysitter’s house become dangerous when the babysitter’s teenage children turn predatory.
As Lisa grows, she clings to her hidden notebook — the one place where she can tell the truth. But each year brings new wounds: a growing dependency on alcohol, a failed suicide attempt, and escalating abuse that no one seems willing to see. When her stepfather finally crosses a line and her mother chooses to protect him instead of her daughters, Lisa reaches a breaking point. Refusing to be silenced any longer, she claims the notebook as her own story and walks away from the cage that was her home. Years later, in a small apartment, Lisa begins typing those pages into the screenplay that will finally make her visible — The Girl They Didn’t See.
